We have an xc60r, xc70, xc90r, and a volvo vnr semi truck. We had 2 xc90s, but one got destroyed when a dodge durango plowed into it at 40 plus mph. It saved our house from getting hit. The durango left on a wrecker, the xc90, although the rear was pretty torn up, was still able to be driven. And all the side doors still opened normally. Volvo for life!❤

This 2012 car is designed before 2002, and it's P2 platform is even older (1998) - I'm impressed by its performance. Most other cars from that era collapses completely, when you do a test, where you bypass the normal frontal deformationszone like you do here!

When you look at the number of deaths from car crashs rather than just crash tests, the volvos don't perform very well.
@limpet7r63

Lots of people saying it's impressive that a 20 year old design does so well in the test, but Volvo have been doing the whole safety thing since long before it became fashionable, and in a very unique way. Amazingly, Volvo actually has a dedicated crash investigation team that has worked closely with Swedish police over the last 50 years to get access to real world accident scenes involving Volvo cars. They work as an integral part of the accident investigation team, and as such have built up a good understanding of just how Volvo cars perform in a crash based on thousands of real world road accidents in endless combinations of circumstances. This data is then used to address weaknesses and improve safety as models are updated. Volvos are genuinely one of the few cars not just designed to pass crash tests, but to be safe in the real world, and all safety features are based on real accidents that have happened to real drivers. The fact a 20 year old design acquits itself so well in this test is not a coincidence. I daresay there isn't a way to crash a Volvo car that Volvo themselves haven't seen and investigated first hand, and which hasn't been factored into the design.
@SuperMrgentleman
@SuperMrgentleman Жыл бұрын
It's still impressive, because loads of car makers just play catch-up, and then immediately fail a new tougher test. IIHS just started testing rear passengers in front collisions and basically a ton flop around in their seatbelts because there's no pretensioners for the rear seats. Volvo has had that since the first XC90, at least. If it's not impressive then it's just sad car makers putting out $50k-$100k cars cheap out on a few hundred bucks for better belts

you can't look at crash tests as 'less damage = Better'. when a frame is stronger, more g force is applied to your body causing the possibility of more harm. take Tesla, for example. sure, they are 5* rating, but if you look at the g-force applied to the body, its almost double that of the Volvo S60. because of the battery and super strong frame of the Tesla. same applies here to the 2016 xc90. there is more frame bend, but that takes away some of the g forces and spreads it throughout the body. :) more crumple of the body = less g force on you = less chance of a broken neck or back ;)

I have an 06 and feel very safe in it. The standing joke at my fire house is, I'll survive but they will play HELL getting me out due to the structural design. I have only seen videos of fatal's in 2 XC 90's. The first rear ended a trailer and got shoved under to the "b" pillar (estimated at going over 85 mph) The second also ran under a trailer and got rear ended by ANOTHER tractor trailer. Got shoved under to the "C" pillar. NO CAR PRODUCED could have saved anyone in the cars.

You know what bothers me is that fact that Volvo “test cars in every situation” yet you can see the head airbag on the older model hardly extends far enough towards the A pillar to protect the head.

How does Volvo XC90 compare with Toyota Land cruiser? In safety aspect. Anyone?

Well... very well. I hate Volvos and Love Toyota. But id rather be in a serious accident in the Volvo put it that way.

200 series Cruiser is a different stripe of tiger all together... much heavier and designed to "cushion" blows more than crumple and deflect.

If they were both in a head on accident, the Volvo driver will be ok and whoever hit the Volvo will "Possibly be ok" too. Cruiser? Probably fair as well as the Volvo but whoever you hit is dead 5 times. Dead as fuck.

Land cruiser looks huge but is the body well built of robust steel, engineered to save lives of occupants? I really wonder if there is educated answer? Fact based answer. Hoping someone answers this 👍🏻

Efos Theiou The force of the crash was minimized and the passenger cabin is still intact. That is the most important thing. The car won't stop in a few seconds, but the passenger is safe.
@Mazoox500
@Mazoox500 7 жыл бұрын
Oc it should stop right away. the force would be much higher/severe for the occupants if the cars stop dead in it tracks. This is by far the safest way to crash. And if the car should hit another object after the initial impact the speed have already decreased which should lesser the second impact.

you should learn some basics of physics and how momentum and G forces work and how big are forces on human body or element stopping immedeately vs slowly decelerating to full stop, imagine this, you traveling 50km/h and car suddenly stops in 0.5s to full stop vs 50km/h and slowly stopping in 4s.... I would like to be in the car with 4s stop .... volvo in this particular way ;)

yes they are, but are removed to give the camera a better angle on the dummy and movement on impact, i think.

Old car Volvo strong contruct. But real danger young volvo car contruct... Very Lots of stuff details in the plateau and as few metal parts as possible. It's not safe. Thin parts deteriorate faster over time, leaving fragile factory fasteners. When researching old volvo ones are still strictly designed. Depending on how old the volvo is used and maintenance time. Rust everyone has a car. As little rust as possible. Volvo will last a long time.

It says 2014 on the footage for the older one. Btw I dont really see drastic difference. The side airbags have better coverage on the newer model but thatone also seemed to be the one deforming more ( windshield cracking more ).

OUPS
