We have an xc60r, xc70, xc90r, and a volvo vnr semi truck. We had 2 xc90s, but one got destroyed when a dodge durango plowed into it at 40 plus mph. It saved our house from getting hit. The durango left on a wrecker, the xc90, although the rear was pretty torn up, was still able to be driven. And all the side doors still opened normally. Volvo for life!❤

When you look at the number of deaths from car crashs rather than just crash tests, the volvos don't perform very well.
@limpet7r63 Жыл бұрын
Lots of people saying it's impressive that a 20 year old design does so well in the test, but Volvo have been doing the whole safety thing since long before it became fashionable, and in a very unique way. Amazingly, Volvo actually has a dedicated crash investigation team that has worked closely with Swedish police over the last 50 years to get access to real world accident scenes involving Volvo cars. They work as an integral part of the accident investigation team, and as such have built up a good understanding of just how Volvo cars perform in a crash based on thousands of real world road accidents in endless combinations of circumstances. This data is then used to address weaknesses and improve safety as models are updated. Volvos are genuinely one of the few cars not just designed to pass crash tests, but to be safe in the real world, and all safety features are based on real accidents that have happened to real drivers. The fact a 20 year old design acquits itself so well in this test is not a coincidence. I daresay there isn't a way to crash a Volvo car that Volvo themselves haven't seen and investigated first hand, and which hasn't been factored into the design.
@SuperMrgentleman Жыл бұрын
It's still impressive, because loads of car makers just play catch-up, and then immediately fail a new tougher test. IIHS just started testing rear passengers in front collisions and basically a ton flop around in their seatbelts because there's no pretensioners for the rear seats. Volvo has had that since the first XC90, at least. If it's not impressive then it's just sad car makers putting out $50k-$100k cars cheap out on a few hundred bucks for better belts

you can't look at crash tests as 'less damage = Better'. when a frame is stronger, more g force is applied to your body causing the possibility of more harm. take Tesla, for example. sure, they are 5* rating, but if you look at the g-force applied to the body, its almost double that of the Volvo S60. because of the battery and super strong frame of the Tesla. same applies here to the 2016 xc90. there is more frame bend, but that takes away some of the g forces and spreads it throughout the body. :) more crumple of the body = less g force on you = less chance of a broken neck or back ;)

It says 2014 on the footage for the older one. Btw I dont really see drastic difference. The side airbags have better coverage on the newer model but thatone also seemed to be the one deforming more ( windshield cracking more ).

The new one wouldn’t show this in crash test but it has a lot more safety mitigation features. But is probably splitting hairs.

OUPS
