Just gonna maybe write my own idea on what happens after the song. So, judging by what was said at the end with Mario saying "come back"(?) it's kinda obvious to assume SMG4 has escaped the darkness. Though, we can't be for certain for SMG3 sadly. But, my interpretation is that they both get away but SMG3 was badly beaten up from it all so he may become more vulnerable to being consumed by the darkness but hopefully we can have them both survive. But knowing the darkness one of them is bound to be consumed soo.

Welp, imma try my hand at writing lore for this as a stand-alone. During the 100-hour stream, the corruption somehow got into SMG4’s room (probably through Peach’s slide). 4 wasn’t immediately corrupted, as his nature as a meme guardian provided some immunity, but the lengthy solitude and his already unstable mental state allowed the virus to take him relatively quickly. When SMG3 opened the door during “…announcement?”, the virus spilled out through the castle, infecting its inhabitants. 3, being a meme guardian, was the only survivor, but his time in the internet graveyard had given him a “dead” aura that was not to the virus’s liking. 3 was able to find 4, and they commenced in song. 3 encountered Meggy and Toad as 4 fled, only to meet 4 once again as he was still motivated to make the perfect video. The jog has awakened something in 4 thought, seeing his friends taken by this darkness. Cue Mario, busting in and confronting 3. As we have seen before in WODFI 2021, Mario is still able to be used by opposing forces despite being the avatar. Seeing Mario taken really pushed 3 over the edge, which let 4 begin fighting his way out. Once 3 realized 4 was trying to escape, 3 sacrificed himself to send 4 to the internet graveyard, telling him to find SMG1 and 2. Whatever virus remained on 4 was immediately destroyed by the nature of the internet graveyard, completely freeing SMG4. He now had a mission: find survivors to free his friends. His first thought when thinking of survivors was Steve, seeing as Steve got through the Lava flood with minimal effort. SMG4 was still hurt, but the dead memes helped him rest and heal. Once 4 was ready for travel again, he set out to stop what his madness caused.
