Crass were an anarcho punk band who existed between 1977 and 1984. Hugely political while also anarchists. Steve Ignorant, the singer, is an incredible song writer.

@@JaEDLanc Ever even listened to Crass? The song you're commenting under is literally about how people who tell working class people to rise up are a bunch of phonies. And The crux of Steve Ignorants ideology is literally that he doesn't want to work for anybody elses benefit. He was working class in the sense he was born into the expectation he should work to make a living, but he very openly stated that he wasn't gonna work unless he decided to by his own volition. I don't get how you can't understand this if you've even listened to a single song crass has made, nevermind met Steve Ignorant.

@@JaEDLanc You need to listen and read abit more about Crass… they never told anyone to do anything, except think for yourself. I’d imagine Steve’s worked far harder than most people, you don’t need to just dig holes to be what you’d probably call working class.

Crass and the related bands on the Crass lable are the epitome of what Punk is. The lyrics are as relevant now as they were then. Check our Stratford Mercenaries and Dirt

Been listening to punk music for a long time and it scares me that Crass is still this relevant today.

My favorite band growing up! Anarchists/ artists in Britain after the Sex Pistols and the Clash fooled everyone with their anarchist stance only to “sell out” thus creating a product called punk and cancelling out or co-opting the movement at the time with all the squatter youth and the joblessness on top of the unnecessary Falklands war this band was a result of this environment and detailed the daily soul-crushing life for British youth and advocated rejecting all societal norms including gender race sexuality education as manipulation by charlatans and psychiatrists like Marx, Freud, Rimbaud... these guys and Subhumans were my life in high school

I first head this band when I was 10, my brother gotcsome of their albums as imports (Feeding of the 5000 and Penis Envy). I had no ides whatcthey were singing about as English is not my native language but they sounded like they meant it. Even more so because of stories that the whole vand were kiving in a house in a rural area in the south of England (Dial House, Essex) like a commune. Drummer Penny Rimbaud hsd been ljving there along with graphic artise Gee Vaucher and their open door policy was why they all lived there. A nice little anarchist place away from the city. Great band, great lyrics that are still relevant today. The Ramones sound tto me like bubblegum pop band with loud guitars (first three albums and first live album are great).

I can suggest some of Crass's most controversial songs: "Reality Asylum", "Sheep Farming in the Falklands", "Shaved Women", and "Nakasaki Nightmare" are just a few. The printers' union refused to print Crass's first album because of the anti-religious lyrics so Crass formed their own label and printed it. One of Crass's artist on their label was an Icelandic band called Kukl (Sorcery in Icelandic) which featured Bjork.
@DOMSKYTRANCE3 жыл бұрын
The Album was actually released on Small Wonder Records with Reality Asylum replaced with a couple of minutes of silence. I have the original album. Of course Crass rereleased the album later on their own label with Reality Asylum included

In case you are interested there is an Australian band called Amyl and the Sniffers that are touring UK and US and have a new record out. They have a pretty big following around the world for a Melbourne punk band. Try "Guided by Angels" from their new album or "Some mutts" from their last album.
