Donathan and Kelly gets surprised, while watching Rang De Basanti starring Aamir Khan, just how much this movie hits home.
Storyline
A young idealistic English filmmaker, Sue, arrives in India to make a film on Indian revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad and their contemporaries and their fight for freedom from the British Raj. Owing to a lack of funds, she recruits students from Delhi University to act in her docu-drama. She finds DJ, who graduated five years ago but still wants to be a part of the University because he doesn't think there's too much out there in the real world to look forward to. Karan, the son of Industrialist Rajnath Singhania, who shares an uncomfortable relationship with his father, but continues to live off him, albeit very grudgingly. Aslam, is a middle class Muslim boy, who lives in the by-lanes near Jama Masjid, poet, philosopher and guide to his friends. Sukhi, the group's baby, innocent, vulnerable and with a weakness for only one thing - girls. Laxman Pandey, the fundamentalist in the group, the only one who still believes that politics can make the world a better place ...

The background in ur vdo at 9:56 to 10:00 scene where the politician is seen ordering open fire is an adaptation of Jalliawalah Bagh massacre (I believe because it reminded me of that) in 1919 when Gen. Dyer ordered open fire on an unarmed gathering, and the place had only 1 entry/exit point. I think, you might like to read about it. It was one of the many events that really inspired Bhagat Singh to fight for freedom.

Watch Lagaan the movie which cannot be described in one word other than EPIC!!! It was gone for Oscar's but didn't win not because it didn't deserve Oscar but because Oscar doesn't deserve this movie.

Trust me when I say this...Lagaan would have been a better choice hands down! It is an Oscar nominated film which is still being taught in many film schools all over the world including NYFA. It is a must watch

Yeah true...... One gets to know one's value when they are not around..... Example :Democracy all take it as granted no respect.... Soldiers , freedom fighters too... It is also a concept in Hinduism.... Time moves in a circle (where the term incarnation came) in this movie Bhagat Singh, shukhdev are old Hero at present these college students are with different looks

This movie is like old grape wine.. keep this in your collection... After lord of the Rings, this movie stands as most watched movie of mine.. If I were given a death sentence.. Watching Rang De Basanti would be one of my final wish :)

My guess is that you found the first half slow or less interesting because of cultural difference. Indians can relate to the first half very well there is a lot of comedy in the first half.

The story of the revolutionaries is told beautifully in "The Legend of Bhagat Singh" starring Ajay Devgan. Definitely recommend if you want to learn more about their stories.
