Check your fuel lines on the defender that can cause problems with them starting bc there chocked. Just blow the pipe back in to the tank and see from there

It’s might be the spark plugs or starter motor needs changing on the landy

Had it with an old rav4 with the weather getting colder, diesel gelled up in the filter and stopped it. New filter and away it went

Water in the fuel from sitting. If that happens again, check filter first. Treat your fuel if it’s going to sit? I’m in the states so idk if something like that is restricted there. Don’t run your diesel vehicle on the dregs in your tanks. We get way colder here and managing the fuel is a job. I’m glad your defender is back. Even if it’s a piece. It’s yours and likely indestructible lol. ❤

Does the defender have an emoboliser? Used to be a common fault with the Discovery and you could get a bypass kit.

We didn't really get a good look, but that fuel tank is nasty. Almost looked like a case of some diesel bug? IDK. Anyhow, I'd drain and clean that tank together with the new filter.

My defender did what yours is doing and it was the starter motor in the end. Which I though was odd as it was winding over but not firing
