"Povzunetz" (the name of this dance) is a rich part of the Ukrainian military Kozak culture which has nothing to do with Russian, and I will explain it a bit later. It is danced almost in that position which is symbolic for a "military recognizance mission" in the area Kozaks had their statehood: the Ukrainian steppes - mainly flat. So in order not to be visible as a "military recognizance", they dance it that way, not "sticking" out... More to it: The Kozak statehood was the first attempt in Europe (it started at the end of the XV cent.) to establish the first democracy: all its Hetmans (presidents) were elected... The Kozak state had its first European constitution written by Orlyk who later had to emigrate to France when Zaporizzhia Sich (the name of the Kozak state) was dismantled by Russians. He became so famous that Frenchmen named their Orly airport after him. So, after a total destruction of Zaporizzhia Sich by Russian Empire, Kozaks were forcibly dislocated to Kuban area and the area of the contemporary Rostov in Russia. All their songs and traditions were proclaimed to be of "Russian heritage," even though it is clear of the opposite: the Kozak culture was founded on the principle of freedom from landlords while the Russian one - on slavery that existed until the year 1861 (!!!) In this period Kozak detachments in Russia were mainly used for repression in Russia, Poland and Ukraine and in stimulating anti-Jewish pogroms. But I have to restate: it has nothing to do with the genuine freedom-loving Ukrainian Kozak culture. Thanks for your attention.

Are you going ask an apologize to all the others who commented? I assumed it was a Russian dance because, in part, I guide myself in the other comments. On the other hand, as I have understood it's not exactly a war with Russia. but a conflict with separatist. A conflict between Ukrainians began by a parliamentary coup against the president (of course there are embroiled foreign interests, from Russia and from Western.) I will not apologize just because there is a conflict between pro-Russian and anti-Russian,a person should always apologize when make a mistake that can offend someone, or in the case of confusing a culture, a person should always be able to correct itself when is confusing a culture with another. I hope you have the same approach for other countries and this is not just a nationalist backlash.
@Adarii55510 жыл бұрын
oh my god you can't even read... I apologize for confusing two different cultures. But you should apologize for being such an idiot. On the other hand, is not my problem you do not understand what happens in your own country. Is it that you belong to Svoboda? Maybe not, but you still being a really pitiful person

Where is there so much fuss in the comments between Ukrainians and Russians? There's as much difference between you as there is between north Germans and Bavarians. Sure, there are differences to be recognized, however you share much of each other's historical and cultural achievements and should be proud of it. You're practically Slavic brothers. Especially since the Cossacks settled in areas across Ukraine and southern Russia. It's probably due to the current war though, which is sad to see.
@TemplarX29 жыл бұрын
WhyNotZoidberg Bavarians aren't very similar to Eastern Germans though. They are probably racially closer to Eastern French (Alsacian, Lorrainers,champagne and even Burgundians etc) than Eastern Germans.
@Serenoj699 жыл бұрын
WhyNotZoidberg nationalism +++ chauvinism are used by polticians. And when such a person is in charge long enough, thi becomes institutionalised. So it is now taught in schools, via media. You become indoctrinated Like in Russia, like in France, like the USA and many other countries I fear. Look how it is "unamerican to be not patriotic". This makes you more different than others. Of course the best examples are found righ across the border where for some reason ALL people are somehow more different in another way too. etc. Nationalism is a pestulence. Read also patriotism, chauvinism etc.
@bristonknight93157 жыл бұрын
So much fuss again, and for a good reason: - The reason Ukrainians want to be independent is the aggressive stand of the Russian authorities with regards to the Ukrainian language and culture which Moscow, through all kind of restrictions and prohibitions (including a killing of writes, poets, etc) tried to eliminate. When it did not work, and the drive for independence became very strong, in 1917-1918, Moscow invaded Ukraine, established a marionette Bolshevik government and organized the artificial hunger, encircling Ukraine with its armies to prevent from escaping. This genocide is known in history as Holodomor. More than 7 million Ukrainian peasants, carriers of the national identity, starved to death... Nevertheless, the Ukrainians declared their independence in 1991 and broke from the Imperial Russia. Today we see another attempt of reconquering Ukraine by Moscow, which Moscow calls "gathering of Russian lands"... - a simple imperialist practice of conquering and exploitation. Would one blame Tibetans for their attempts to break free from China? Or Kurds from Turkey or Irak for instance? Eliminating one individual soul would be a colossal loss for the Universe. What about a nation, with its particular visions and values? - in one of his s/f book, Ray Bradberry describes how during a time travel, one hero does something to a butterfly... Guess what were the consequences for the future: - in the USA a different president was elected.... I guess it's Trump... :)
