Hikers prayer... If you can't take it, stop turn round or go back.

Good quality video! Would definitely capture my full attention. At least the footing is solid.

How bad is it really. Tons of people make this hike. I'm planning on it myself. My 15 year old is worried but if it was that bad would they let everyone do it. I'm sincerely asking this question

I can't easily answer that question because everyone's level of experience is different. For me, not that bad. I recorded this video while holding my phone in my dominant hand for example. But I have experience with exposed class 3/4 scrambling in the Cascades in Washington State. For someone who doesn't? Probably quite scary. It's highly exposed and eroded. But all class 2. You're mostly walking on rock, not soil. So if it were raining it would be slick and significantly more dangerous. The sound of the waves crashing below can be deafening and unsettling. Most of the ledge is 2-3 feet wide. Some parts are quite narrow. If someone were panicking or clumsy it would be possible to trip and fall off. The angle of the rock face below the ledge is likely too steep to arrest a fall. A fall here would very likely result in a fatality. Definitely be aware of the forecast and intentionally plan your entrance and exit around any precipitation.

2:10-2:40 shows the worst of it.

I have done it twice. This raises the anxiety, but the footing is for the most part rough porous lava rock so it grips good hiking boots. There is a J-hook coming back about mile marker 9 or so where you do down hill on gravel then hook hard to the right I found more terrifying because there was a slope and loose gravel. If you slip you are gone. Also, if you are a dumb ass and attempt to hike in the rain with porous clay in some areas, like coming up Red Hill coming out of the Kalalau Valley things could go bad. This said, I would rather do this in good weather than other spots in bad.

is she wearing headphones?

Two pairs actually. AfterShokz Aeropex. The grey ones shorted out on the trip somehow and I gave her mine. They're bone conducting so your ear canals are open. Great for trail running and cycling.
