Turned out nice. Looks like a great project to work with kids. Pre cut everything and let them assemble it. Great job.

You should check out Circuits and Strings. He primarily makes ukuleles, but he’s made little strum sticks like these in the past. I think you’d like his video where he makes an ukulele with an Altoids tin for the body. Like the Altoids uke, this diddley bow could probably benefit from some strap pegs. I love the wood choices and finish; it really makes the colors on the tin pop.

Well that is a nice diddy bow. The neck I mean. Mine is a small cigar box. with a 1" dowel for a neck.

This is exactly the info I was looking for! I build some CBGs and lap 1-string diddley bows. But I was asked to do a workshop at the library to build instrumetns with the public. I got a bunch of thrift store metal cookie and other kinds of tins, and some soup cans for "canjos". Should be fun--I'll build the "kits" and the kids can screw the together and be rocking in no time. I'm curious about something--your'e using oak for the neck. For the sake of ease and expense, do you suppose good quality pine would be enough? It's only one string, I think it would take a while for the tension to warp it too badly. I considered too building them with frets, but that's an entire new can of worms. Leveling, string action... I think for basic slide blues, a fretless (maybe just with markers for the locations of the frets) would work great. Thanks again. Cool, goofy little guitar you have there!

Put a piezo and jack on that and you've got an electric. Gotta say this is way fancier than the one I built out of two beer bottles, a 1x4, and an eye bolt. 😀 Thanks for sharing!

I made a 2 string fretless bass (aka 2 string diddley bow), the neck through a small tin candy box with a single coil magnetic pickup with volume and tone pots ... much fun through an amp and distorted! Aka Djent Stick!

@@homebuiltshop do you have any tips for making a guitar from basically what you can find at a hardware store? (except strings and tuners)
@homebuiltshop5 жыл бұрын
I'd say just get creative. Don't let conventional procedures hold you back. With some ingenuity you can make lots of stuff work. Just experiment with things, make some mistakes, experiment some more and you'll make something awesome. Take your time choosing wood. You can find good materials if you take the time to look for it.
