I have done this with children with adult supervision they loved it and no one was hurt. People underestimate the intelligence of children. When I was a child my mother taught me how to whittle, use a wood burning tool, sew, cook and iron. If you are worried about children getting injured then plunk them in front of a TV and give them some video games.

This is cool! To remove paper from the crayons put them in the freezer over night and the paper will slide off. Thanks for the video!

Linda, I´m trying this out not on a hot plate but with a flat grill plate, it works but you do smell the fumes of the oil pastels. Are the fumes less on a hot plate? Or does one just have to accept the smell of melted oil pastels? Love to hear from you

What if you put the paper down first and than draw on it while its warm? That might be very cool as well. specially if you used water color paper or some sort.

Does the crayon chip off or is it now part of the paper? I use a Crayola crayon melter (2019!) and I find if I use it on paper it falls off..... Better on a solid substrate....

The melted crayon becomes part of the paper. It does not chip off. I've used the papers in collages and for greeting cards.
