RE the first story Convincing a psychiatrist to diagnose DID is extremely difficult for someone who *does* have it, and as nigh on impossible as this world allows for someone who does not. There are a number of psychiatrists who still do not believe the illness exists. It would not be fair to punish the entire system for the acts of one alter - that is, it would not be fair to punish all the identities for the actions of one of them. It would be impossible to imprison one single alter without imprisoning the entire system, so the only real way to contain the harmful alter is with long term monitoring and ongoing mental health evaluations.
