I just tried this dance and it is not that difficult at all. I am writing from the emergency room, got dislocated knees, one hip and both heels are cracked, but other than that, I am in good shape and will give this a go again in a couple of years.

I'v seen something similar at a pageant in “Katharagama” -Sri Lanka. The drumbeat and the leg moves has certain similarities though it may not be as fast as the Azerbaijani dance. Salute to the dancers 🕺🎉

Many of these dances were really disguised combat training and combat conditioning. The foot placement and the whole body movement was the training part to create the ability under the stress of combat to effortlessly move around an opponent. If you can’t stand you can’t fight, and if you can’t move you can’t win. The speed of the dance provides the aerobic combat conditioning to last the duration of the battle and not end up dead because you were too tired to respond in time to a threat.

I learned to dance it when I worked in Azerbaijan in 2012. Very easy if you know how to move your legs. No need to move your hips and shoulders like salsa or bachata. We latinos can dance this type of music because our dances are more difficult.
