And the rules say that: a pass recieving player shall be considered ON-side, if there are at least 2 players of the opposing team closer to the goal. Remember, goalie is still a player!

It's not one player that has to be between you and the end line, it's two. One of those two is normally the goalie, which is why we normally think in terms of one defender, but on this occasion the goalie's the wrong side of Vela to count. Commentator even says it.
