Square grand piano, from the length of the keyboard is probably 1850's/60's. They stopped producing pianos like this by the early 1900's as the upright because more popular in the home. Might be a original piece to the house since the house is just as old. It is amazing what people will leave behind. They go for a lot of money even in un restored condition. Here is a link for more info about these pianos. (piano tuner/tech here) antiquepianoshop.com/

actually the piano is original being it was made circa 1889. You can google Vose and Sons and they have a rare old catalog photo and this piano is the pictured there. It is probably worth upwards of $40,000.00 if not more. Just mind boggling to me the beauty and history just left to rot. Truly heartbreaking.

Definitely an elderly person was living there. The first floor bathroom was set up for elderly. Had a shower seat for someone to sit on while bathing. The first bedroom had a pottie chair. So very sad. Like so many have said, we collect stuff through our lives and this is what happens. Seeing these videos has brought me to the realization that I need to start donating or getting rid of things now. Thanks for another great find!! Be safe.

Thank you so much for exploring this incredible house. The green jars at the beginning are Depression Era containers. They are labeled with sugar or coffee and when cleaning better not to rub over any painted surface. Yes I suppose the family took what it wanted and quickly looked for money and left. Agree, the metal roof is a house lifesaver! A new owner should park an RV out front, rent a dumpster, rake up all that trash on the floors and start rehabing the old girl! Electrical should be completely replaced for safety's sake, plumbing, too for the same reason. Then the fun begins and I'd aim for authenticity as much as possible! Keep the piano!

Two bathrooms: one downstairs, one upstairs. Actually, that's one more than a lot of places had/have. One of my nephews lived in a place with only one--and it was upstairs. Very inconvenient, except at night, when everybody's in the bedrooms. This place looks like it would've been quite cheerful in its happier days and could be again if someone cared enough and was willing (and able!) to invest some bucks in bringing it back to life. Kappy's really good at finding interesting places, isn't he?!

That lattice work on the front porch is pretty, but too many critters always are able to find their way in, especially skunks and raccoons. This house looks familiar; maybe someone else had a.video of it? The kitchen isn’t in too bad of shape. I hate bathrooms right off the kitchen. Nothing as appetizing as eating a meal while someone takes a dump three feet from you. That is a beautiful piano, and that room is also in pretty good shape. Upstairs isn’t in such bad shape either. I think this house is fixable. I am not fond of bedrooms that can only be accessed by going through someone else’s bedroom. All of the old wooden doors look pretty good. What, no turkey buzzards in the attic? I love the songs of the birds when you are outside. This is a great location and a beauty of a house. Thank you for the tour!

I did some research and there are similar pianos selling from seven grand on eBay to 45 grand in specialty antique stores. These were apparently really good pianos, high quality, dependable, very desirable. The hand painting on it makes it more valuable. It's a shame somebody could be contacted so that the heir(s) could be located and the piano saved before vandals find the house. If you did, Kappy, you can get they will, too. You were right, Kappy, this is a very sad house and its story can easily be read. The husband grew ill and his wife took care of him, sleeping in the room adjoining his. A much younger male relative (perhaps their grandson) lived there as well, presumably to help her care for the gentleman. Eventually, he passed away and the lady herself fell ill an, unable to walk, was moved downstairs. More than likely, the younger man remained in the house to care for her. After her death, he ransacked the house, looking for anything valuable. His not destroying things but just tossing them aside indicates that he had an emotional connection to the older couple and their belongings. His leaving their clothes carefully hanging in the closets showed his love and respect for them. Vandals would have done more destruction to everything, just because they could. This young man clearly held deep feelings for that square grand piano. That would explain its being left unharmed, sitting like an island in the sea of trash and unwanted belongings. Likewise, he held the couple's diplomas in reverence. The one hanging on the wall over the piano may be from a school of music, while the ornate one upstairs is more than likely from a college or university. This couple were highly educated and very special to the young man, as evidenced by his caring for them in their final days. I believe that the most poignant piece in the house is that magnificent piano. Though its music is no longer heard, it was clearly loved and it held much sentimental worth for the survivor of this loving couple. Obviously, he was unable to move the piano and may have not wanted to sell it at that time. Perhaps he is no longer living, or it would seem that he would have sold it by now. It is a sad surmise and a sad ending to two loving lives. We can only hope the young man survives and will one day sell or recover that piano and sell the house so that it may know joy once more. Oh, on a brighter note, Kappy, now we know what all those rusted doorknobs and door plates should look like! They should be brightly shining brass finished and beautifully designed. No wonder you love them so!

Once this was someone's cherished home. The original part of this hose still has a good deal of salvageable wood work and flooring. The piano was awesome but people don't want them now. If the owners had cleared that house out and given stuff to Goodwill, someone could have benefited from their donation and they could have gotten a tax deduction. Then, with a cleared house, if it couldn't be sold the owners could have made money from salvage. Those faceplates on the doorknobs were beautiful and valuable.

So I can see a piano from the original owner being passed along to each person who bought/rented the home. It maybe quite old!
