CRAZY Adirondack Bass Fishing - Rollins Pond Camping, Paddling and Fishing
The annual family camping trip to Rollins Pond in the Adirondacks leads to some beautiful sunsets and CRAZY Adirondack bass fishing! The typical good fishing turned HOT when I found a post spawn staging area that lead to around 12 fish on consecutive casts with some beasts in the mix. The kids did some awesome fishing and set some personal bests! The only regret was that my GoPro died during the hot fishing and I didn't get several nice fish on camera.

We will be at Rollins Pond the 13th through the 16th. Guess we are going to have to drop a line in the water. Thanks for recording the fun and posting it!

Thanks... We usually have good fishing there but finding the staging area was pretty awesome. I've come across a few of these on different waters over the years and you definitely take advantage of it while you can :) Thanks for watching and commenting!

I'm 68 and made my first trip to Rollins Pond at 6 months old and was there in 2021. You hit the secret, to go across the lake away from the camp sites. I think the bass fishing in just as good or maybe even better than 50 years ago.

Thanks for watching and commenting! White Dog was formed in 1981 by 3 guides and longtime friends. One of the guides had a white dog which is where the name came from. My step father was one of the 3 founding guides so I grew up with the name White Dog and wanted to carry that on. Now 2 of the original 3 guides are still active and I joined them about 6 years ago. It has definitely been fun :)

Might wanna tighten the drag just a tad. You’ll get line twist n birds nests with to loose of drag
@WhiteDogTrailCompany
@WhiteDogTrailCompany 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. I've had very good success with no line twisting but I think a lot of that has to do with the line I use combined with the amount of drag I use. I use P-Line Flouroclear. It sits very well on the reel, doesn't have a lot of memory and casts incredibly well. I use drag on purpose so when I get the big fish I don't run into any issues that could stress the line too much (lost some big fish in my younger years because of this). I want enough resistance that I have no problem burying a hook but loose enough that if they run they'll pull some line (but not a lot). Even though you hear the drag clicking throughout the fight it is barely moving unless the really pull and even this it doesn't give too much... then a smooth drag will let them take it but not mess up your line. If it is too loose and spins too easily then it would definitely bird nest but my drag is never that loose. Thanks again for watching and commenting!

Nice video...fun to watch. Is that a Hornbeck your in?
@WhiteDogTrailCompany
@WhiteDogTrailCompany 6 жыл бұрын
Yes... It is a Hornbeck 13' Classic Hybrid (Kevlar/carbon). I borrowed it from someone to try it out and loved it! They're a little less expensive than the Spitfire that I had my mind on so I might be leaning hornbeck now as we wanted 2 of them. I know you love your SpitFire though and i like the idea of not having any wood to treat on a boat.

BTW Kelly... I just put a down payment on a Hornbeck!!! I'll be doing some pond stuff this year! My wife is getting hers when she can paddle on their pond and determine if she wants a 12' or 13'.

Which area of the pond we're you fishing? We haven't had your kind of luck at Rollins Pond.

I think part of it is the time of year we were there. We hit it post spawn this year which ended up being great. We really were just fishing the area near the campsites. I don't remember the site numbers but there is a bay that has campsites on both sides. I always fish that area and do well. Then across the lake from that same area I have done well also. Then other areas seem to be completely dead... I usually just cover as much water as I can until I find active fish. We have caught plenty of nice largemouth, a few nice smallmouth, connected with (but not landed) decent pike and even run into a splake which unfortunately didn't survive the fight and warm water in the middle of summer. We used to camp at Rollins when we were kids and thought the fishing sucked... but now I realize how good it actually is.

@@tommcl386 I have definitely found specific shorelines to be better and I think the key is that they have deeper water or are very close to deeper water. I had trouble finding any deep water on Harris. Although we really liked Harris in general.

Good job man! You guys were catching pigs in that one spot! Kids too! Is Rollins pond up near saranac lake and tupper lake? Is it the rollins pond campground thats on fish creek pond or the actual rollins pond? Fish on!!
@WhiteDogTrailCompany
@WhiteDogTrailCompany 5 жыл бұрын
Yes... it is that one. Great campground with tons of sites on the water. Used to go there as a kid and we never caught fish lol. We just started going the last few years and we always have good fishing. I guess we know how to fish now :)

@@WhiteDogTrailCompany Awesome! Thanks for your quick repsonse! I love bass fishing too and always have! 4th lake is my childhood camping spot and the bass fishing is ok but nothing quite like that! I used to also fish the local bass tournaments at Saratoga lake and lake champlain but i stopped doing tournaments and i just fish around the dacks at different places. I do live quite a ways away from rollins pond area but would love to make it up there some time! Im strictly a catch n' release guy too! I even went to camp colby on lake colby when i was a kid and the bass fishing in Saranac area was always great! Cant wait to get up there again someday! Good luck on all your fishing/camping adventures! Sub added!

@@guitarhiker4449 4th Lake as in Inlet, NY? We have a camp in Old Forge and spend quite a bit of time up there but mostly stay away from the Fulton Chain.

@@WhiteDogTrailCompany Hi white dog. No i meant just the 4th lake in lake luzern. Its a small lake just before you get into lake george if your familiar..? Not the one further north, although i would like to try 7th lake someday cause i had read they stock 30+ inch atlantic salmon in there.. That would be nice! I have a few big salmon lakes in the ADK's i like to fish. Most have browns and rainbows aswell. Open water or ice fishing. I have caught some good ones in George too over the years! Big lake trout too! Ciscos are the key to the big adirondack lakers!! Happy fishin man!

Nice video man dope catches. I’m headed there in early July do you know if they rent rowboats around there to fish out of? Also was the senko the only bait that worked at that lake? What pound line were you using I was thinking of using 8lb braid to 8lb fluorocarbon leader.
@WhiteDogTrailCompany
@WhiteDogTrailCompany 5 жыл бұрын
There is an area where they rent kayaks... not sure about row boats... I don't think I've ever seen one on the lake. Different baits will catch fish... I just don't bring a lot when I go camping and the senko is super easy and effective and I only have to bring a small box and 1 rod. The setup you mention is probably fine.. you just let it drop on a slack line and watch your line for any movement. I love braid for lots of applications... probably not my first choice for this one though because you're dropping on a slack line. Anything where you're keeping the line tight to detect a strike is great for braid... i like a copolymer line like PLine Flouroclear or straight flouro for dropping on a slack line. I always catch nice fish at Rollins focusing on steeper shorelines with cover. Good luck!

Hi White Dog! Where was this exactly?
@WhiteDogTrailCompany
@WhiteDogTrailCompany 5 жыл бұрын
Not sure how to describe it.. on the southern shoreline? Look for steeper shorelines this time of year and especially around points.
