Personally, I don't think I could get along with those narrow bars. Glad they were thinking of the weekend warrior with the other two iterations. Depending on what you think, Ben, I could be looking at my new bike. I took your review/recommendation many years ago and purchased an SLR01. On the dirt more now but loved that climbing machine!

Great preview. Thanks! So glad that BMC are doing a fast gravel bike, especially 2x capable. 36cm seems on the narrow side for those bars. I reckon 40cm at the hoods and 44 at the drops would be ideal.

I sold my URS just because the limited 1x drivetrain, on hilly ...very hilly terrain isn't the best choice (my 2 cents) , migrated to the 3T Exploro Pro with 2x drivetrain to play nice on hilly ride and fast on flat pankcakes gravel roads. Sounds attractive the new KAIUS 2x new and fresh option, I will give a try to the $5999 version on rival etap 2x drivetrain. A friend of mine said that this new BMC looks like a new Orbea gravel without orbea logos ( the joke of the day) but, the tire clearance is also a good move. 36 narrow top bar? mmmm just need to be tested. I will wait for your full review for this bike.

@@TheRidewithBenDelaney I’ve come to the conclusion that high end gravel bikes are a big scam, if you do not need huge tyres just get a 2022 canyon endurace cf with mechanical ultegra for 2300€. Weighs 8,3 kg, accepts 37mm easily and you can upgrade from the 2kg stock wheels. There’s also the split seat stem for 150 bucks if you want a lot of comfort. No need for a 6k 9kg gravel bike. Peter Stetina rides the endurace, although the older model with smaller clearance

Try comparing that to high end s works, pinarello or any italian bikes 🤣🤣🤣 the stakeholders found a way to rip people off. There will always be a suckers for these types of bike that thinks it will make them faster… in their head 😂😂😂 but if it makes them go out more and cycle then im all for it.

😁 On the gravel group ride last night a friend was like, “*another* high-zoot bike, Delaney”? And I gave my stock response: “I keep trying new bikes hoping they will make me faster!” Also, I agree - if new toys get people out more often, then go right ahead. 🤜🤛

@@PhiyackYuh The comical thing is neither these BMC's nor SWorks, etc... are high end at all from a manufacturing fabrication or quality control standpoint. They are just high end priced objects. Almost all of these "high end" CF road and gravel bikes are in truth cheaply fabricated stock cookie cutter Far Eastern sweatshop made framesets fabricated with average build quality and average to below average quality control. It's amazing that any intelligent person with a 3 digit IQ and a functioning brain would happily pay several thousand dollars for a cheaply fabricated (sub $500 cost) stock non-custom cookie cutter frameset simply because some paid pro rode the same brand in a race he or she was paid to ride that disposable cookie cutter bike in. Then you throw in the additional "Froome wannabee" poser nonsense of the amateur clowns with the multi thousand dollar deep dish carbon wheels, their predictable clownish power meters for their massive 200 watts of "power", and of course the poser required Garmin or other computer gadgets hanging off their stem. Current cycling has truly become a mirror image of what the golf recreation morphed into about 20 years now. A recreation absolutely loaded to the brim with poser types pretending they are a paid pro who needs the same equipment a pro uses. 😀😀

My gravel bike has Salsa bars, 38cm at the hoods, 42cm at the drops. I have Worx bars on my road bike: 33cm on the drops, 26cm at the brakes, see the review on Bike Radar. This is consistent with my track bike, which has bars having similar dimensions. Almost all endurance track racers have these dimensions. Track sprinters now have 30cm wide drops. This shows that the traditional belief that bar width should be proportional to shoulder width is false, given track sprinters' shoulder width.

Think the bar will be good, would like something similar, while I run 38mm on the road and 42mm on my Checkpoint I think as long as you have that flare to 42mm on the drops the 36mm at the hood would be kind of nice, for me on a 54cm bike anyway.

36cm is on the narrow side even for road. For gravel it is certainly bold. Still, as a fan of both fast gravel and BMC, I like the attitude and, I guess, the message. For those that like to ride technical stuff on the hoods instead of the drops, this may be a problem. But the whole point seems to be that BMC’s answer is ”So what?”
@BARTHEZ42
@BARTHEZ42 2 жыл бұрын
The reality is, in most cases, road bikes are fitted with handlebars too wide for bike sizes. In gravel bikes handlebars are even wider. I think flare is for added stability but on the hoods you should have same width as on road bike. In this case BMC might get it too narrow (at least for bigger sizes). If I will have 40cm on the hoods in size 56 that would probably be great fit for me. Anyway, great looking bike but not for my budget.

Aren’t bars supposed to match your shoulder width ?
@TheRidewithBenDelaney
@TheRidewithBenDelaney 2 жыл бұрын
Shoulder width is a good basic frame of reference, but preference and application are major factors. Consider a skinny track bar (smooth surface, heavy aero emphasis) vs a wide MTB bar (rough surface, leverage and control emphasis) for the same rider. That is what is fun about gravel - it is still wide open and brands and people are exploring what “right” is.

Not really. The first number is the modulus and the 2nd number is where it sets in their range. So 01 is their lightest, highest module frame while 02 is a little heavier and a little less expensive. So a Timemachine 01 three is their lightest frame but third in line groupset wise.

Ludicrous pricing (as usual). Very long front end, but no compensation for that reach (or steep off road) with slacker head or steeper seat angle. This really isn't ideal for gravel. Sh*t show of a bike IMO. Much rather take the Revolt, new Fuji Jari or Scott Addict.

@pmcmpc
@pmcmpc 2 жыл бұрын
@@TheRidewithBenDelaney Have you looked at the official stem lengths? They're longer than most gravel bikes these days. And stem length is a pretty poor compensator for a too-slack seat angle and too upright head angle. I have a '21 Revolt. Going to try to test ride the new Fuji.

I have to agree, pretty weird figures for my taste. Reach and top tube length significantly longer than on my Tarmac Sl7 in 54, yet still 90 / 100 mm stem length (got 100 mm on the SL7). Can‘t even imagine how to ride this as a gravel bike
