If you would opt for Thunderbelt, build Thunderbelt as early as possible.. You will need to hit Enemy Heroes multiple times to gain more Defense, and its for both Physical and Magic. Its the best Defense/Attack Item available.

@@MangalsanaLamabam even if its 50%, one of the Main Reasons its good with Clint is triggering Thunderbelt Passive to hit the enemy due to Clint's Passive. It is so easy to get stacks on the laning phase, on top a whole line of fire Thunderbelt Passive when used with Clint Passive, and Defense to both Magic/Physical. Don't get me wrong it's not a Go-To item, but if you'll opt for it you should get it early.

Clint has long range basic attack that can hit multiple enemy, which means he can gains much more chance than tank/fighter to triger the stacking passive.( do not forget thunder belt can stacking more than 1 time if u hit multiple heros) So it's easy for him to stacking a average 3-5 hyb def per min even after cut in half. I'd say he has around 2x chance than tank/fighters to stacking so offset the "half def gains", means he got same benefit as tank/fighter in the end if you buy the thunder belt as 2nd item before 10mins, then usually u can have 40+ hyb def from this item including the original attributes in the late game 800hp, 20 mvet speed, 40+ hyb def in the late game plus a slow down effect, that's not bad at all.

The most ridiculous build I tried with clint was thunderbelt + endless battle + starliym scythe + guardian helm + bod + holy crystal. (Sold boots after 3 first items) The last three items increases the true damage of the passives of first 3,and clint 2nd uses magic scaling. I kid you not, I solely dealt 40% damage, melted tanks (sounds fake but isn't).

This is what people don't understand tho. Yeah, halved for MM and mages, but 52/2 = 26 stacks of hybrid physical and magic defense is still valuable esp for marksmen. Add that to the fact that clint can trigger the true dmg bsc attack right after using a skill.
