As an ex DPD driver I can tell you he is sat there thinking where am I getting the money to replace that engine. He will be self-employed and have to lease the van from DPD, all repairs are down to the driver.

It's a ford, there are many of them in the UK, but because of recent weather it's flooded. But, people still decide to drive into a river regardless

It dates back to days of horse and cart. Its cheaper to build a small raised causeway just for people and horses and carts can deal with the ford because they don't get hydrolocked.

Because A: it's likely a country road with very low traffic usually so doesn't warrant a new larger bridge being built. (The original foot/horse bridge is likely hundreds of years old) B: most fords for 250days of the year are at most likely 6"deep, it's only when it rains heavily do they turn into small rivers. Most fords have a depth gauge post but far too many people ignore them or think their car is Way more capable than it actually is.

It's bad enough that these people are trying to ford impassable water, but why drive full-speed into the water, upsetting every molecule of water and forcing it into countless nooks and crannies of the vehicle, as opposed to just ambling thru and just being one with the water?
