Hey Steve, ex-73 yo driver here. Been sub'd for quite a while now and watching your vids endlessly, getting caught up and all. Just wanted to tell you that, IMO, you have, by far, the best truckin' vids out there. I honestly feel like I'm riding shotgun with you. BTW still riding my 2016 HD Softail (2nd one I've owned). Have 65,000 miles (108,000 km ) on it. Bought it off the show room floor with 3.7 km (about 2.5 miles) on it. Wife still goes with me about 95% of the time. Tough gal...lol. Take care. Truck safe, and God bless! P. S. Love Orwell, she's a tough old gal too!!

I'm really curious what is the cause of drivers getting stupider and crazier. I'd love to hear opinions on the reasons from professional drivers. I do a lot of road trips on my motorcycle and I see it too. I'll go out of my way to avoid certain areas and types of roads.
@threynolds2 Жыл бұрын
3:46 the difference is waiting for oncoming traffic, holding up traffic behind you. At some times of the day, there could be a heavy traffic load.

What you said over the CB to DOT crystalizes what those of us who use our eyes when driving deal with all the time and you wonder why I feel like kissing my house when I get back to it because the biggest challenge is going and going back to it the way I left it.
@truthseeker2321 Жыл бұрын
There's definitely too many SWIFT driving school " graduates " out on the roads these days. I got on a driver going 58 mph in the center lane of interstate 65 in Kentucky one time, and he informed me that the center lane was the travel lane. I said that they are all travel lanes, but the sign says SLOWER TRAFFIC USE RIGHT LANE. None of these trucking schools teach common sense or common courtesy these days, they just teach them how to hold a steering wheel.
@HyperActive7 Жыл бұрын
@@truthseeker2321 It's more than just Swift because there's alot of these schools who take drivers to be for their money and don't impress on them the importance of defensive driving or taking their eyes off the GPS to think for themselves. When I went to driving school when I was first learning to drive, everyone in class goofed off especially when anything to do with things that might put them in danger and the school did nothing about it and then crammed all of us in one small Toyota and basically just did nothing but teach us how to hold a steering wheel with little advanced knowledge and so I ended up going to an advanced driving school who taught me everything I needed to know to be a good driver and they even worked with me to pass parallel parking after I didn't pass the driving test the first time.
@truthseeker2321 Жыл бұрын
@HyperActive7 I never went to driving school myself, I had on the job training. That was pretty much normal 36 years ago when I got my start, because most companies wouldn't hire anyone who went to a driving school. They even had that stated in their ads in the classifieds in the back of newspapers. Companies like J.B. Hunt started their own schools, and Werner did too, if I remember correctly. The company I started with put me in a straight truck for the first 4 years, doing city deliveries within a 50 mile radius, and then a yard spotter to give me trailer experience in backing up. This was back in the days before the CDL, when everyone who drove a truck had a Chauffeurs license that covered every class of commercial vehicles. One of the guys who trained me in 1987, started driving trucks in the 1940's, before he ever drove a car, and he never in all of those years had a chargeable accident. There are some good schools out there, but there's more bad ones.
@HyperActive7 Жыл бұрын
@@truthseeker2321 Between you and me, a driver license is just an excuse for the police to pull you over and put you in jail if you don't have it when all the illegals they are letting over our border don't even have to get one to be a legal citizen because our regime forges it for them and so they don't even have to go through all the bullshit we do to keep it. Trust me when I say that there is a real lapse in values in this country when they are letting someone who has no right to be here be able to get a license not certified by a school or driving training agency.

From what I understand from my friends in the law enforcement community, a good number of them don't have a license! The more you know: 18:40 Paper Log Book vs Electric Log Book depend on your age of your truck due to Vin # and the age of the truck. 28:20 Man, the super-speedway on those expressway. Pass the slow people for sure. To many that sits in the middle lane, but when you want to get pass, the slow lane is block and the only option is the fast line, people got some place to go and make drops. But for real, keep the passing and mid lane open then get over to slow lane.. NJ-TP from 95 to the DE line is a lot of that. Steve safe travel, to many people in trucks and cars have not enough brains cells.

Question for ya, is there a reason why you flip the jakes off before each downshift? Does it make it easier to grab the next gear?
@csgergo80 Жыл бұрын
There is a problem with the jakes on Orwell, the automatic off switch, which would turn it off when switching gears or pressing the throttle is broken. If Steve does not shut it off before downshifting, it would destroy the transmission and/or stall the engine.
