Can you show more of entering/exiting customers yards and more manoeuvering please. To me it's definitely the more interesting side of the videos and the most that I can learn from. It's quite frustrating when you turn up outside the company and the next shot is you being loaded and unloaded. Thanks Luke!

Hi Luke, I was born with CP and have been disabled all my life. I have cp (Cerebral Palsy) like Kevin Spacey's character in the The Usual Suspects. So a mild case. I have my driving licence. And yes I pump my own GAS or Petrol as I'm in Canada. If you are disabled and need help use a Full Service station not a Self serve station. Terms we use here in Canada. And yes I have a disabled parking pass but I only use it a sporting events like hockey games in Canada or Football matches in the UK. Plus every year I have all my family phoning me and asking if I would like to go Christmas shopping with them at the mall. Just use a full service station if you need help don't use self service. You can always have road side service in case of a emergency. Maybe a little too hash if you can't pump your own gas you can't drive.

when I worked in a petrol station, we were trained that if someone with a blue badge comes, they honk their horn and we go out and fill them up so its not unusual for him to be honking, he probably shouldn't have got angry but that is what is expected from the staff.

The audio between 9:30 and 11:04 freaked me out, I thought my audio had broken so am glad that was explained hahaha. The thing about the disabled driver is very odd as they can obviously get in and out the vehicle so surely they can get out to put fuel in their car. When I worked at a petrol station I helped a few disabled drivers who rang the shops phone as the number was pretty easy to find online lol.

Totally get your point , but With bp garages and some others there’s app they have or button to press it you need assistance if disabled, I am actually disabled I can’t drive due to meds n eye sight but others who can go threw a bit different test to make sure they safe n that can definitely get out if emergency furling up takes a lot effort if you got get wheelchair out n fuel n so on space at a minimum or they could be a amputee n have adapted steering wheel n automatic care

The comment about disability; having worked at a petrol station we are required to go and help them fill up if they have a badge, but they should call the garage prior to coming to inform them that they’re coming. I’ve done it a couple times whilst there. (No idea if the person in question had called or just showed up - but yeah the procedure is typically they call beforehand, but I’d still go out and help if they didn’t).

haha thats heck of a topic... not gona lie I have NEVER given a though to how bluebadge holders refuel... never seen it hapen. only ever seen them at supermarkets where they were ither able enough to get out themselves or had someone with them. but regardless expecting petrol station staff to refuel for you which isn't done here is a bit much. and these stations often only have one staff member around and they probably cannot really leave the kiosk. if you ask me if they were entitled enough to go to a petrol station assuming someone would refuel for them then screw them. not saying I wouldn't help someone.. just saying if they were that obnoxious there is probably a reason they couldn't get anyone to go with them and there will be no karmic repercussions for just leaving

As a disabled driver myself I can see both sides of an argument. He may have been in a position (as a wheelchair user) where getting out is virtually impossible at best of times. There are petrol stations who offer assistance for such users, however, I know full well that some people who ARE capable, would still rather be waited on. If I have an adult family member with me I sometimes ask them to do it but other wise I do it. Although not a wheelchair user I do have to use 2 sticks which is awkward. Bit of self pride I guess. Could be either way with that man. Impossible to say. Love your videos Luke, keep them coming

When doing a night out, how do you manage with the sleep apnoea? Do you have a portable CPAP machine?
@lukecinahgv
@lukecinahgv Жыл бұрын
If I wanted to, I could. I’ve got a Eco flow power adapter, which would power at all night. However, I’ve not use the sleep apnoea machine in weeks now. Never got on with it and found it actually made things worse, not better. I only have sleep apnoea in the sense that I snore. Not in the sense that I get a bad night sleep. And tired during the day. I get good nights sleep every night and never feel tired during the day. Using the machine had the opposite effect. I would have rubbish night sleep, and then as a consequence be tired the next day which is why I stopped using it.
@afinney88
@afinney88 Жыл бұрын
@@lukecinahgv Cheers Luke for getting back to me. Sorry to hear that the machine didn't work out for you and to be honest I sometimes think that mine does more harm than good (to my quality of sleep anyway). Woke up at 4am this morning with air leaks blasting me in the eyes as the mask had slipped a bit and I've felt like crap all day now. Good to hear that it doesn't make you tired during the day, unfortunately that wasn't the case with me and I was finding myself "nodding off" far too often! Not now though, the CPAP machine has been life changing for me.

Not sure about that Overhang Luke when there Was Plenty of Space Upstairs, The Overhang rules are Supposed to be for Indivisible loads, ie: large objects in Excess of the Trailors Length, all you had to do was Leave a Gap at the Front and put 2 Stacks in the Middle, it would be well within the Height Limits 16'6'', in Fact it would barely be Above the Cab and your Strapping would Ensure that it Wouldn't go anywhere, Mesh Rarely does in my Experience, but you were there, i wasn't, it's just that the Authorities could Deem that an Unnecessary Risk when there was Another Option, You know what they can be Like. As for Breaks Whilst Loading, a VOSA Guy at one of our CPC Courses said that they do not have an Issue with that, i waited 36 Hours for a Load of Steel out of Sheffield (Stockbridge) once, even had a Daily Rest on Site.

@@lukecinahgv The assumptions you’re making are unbelievable. If you’re caught in the same situation how would you get out?

Why is my assumption unbelievable? I was there. The guy did not get out. If he could (as you’re suggesting) then he should have 🤷‍♂️

Understand where you're coming from on that one, after all HGV have to have a medical and all of us need to prove we can read a numberplate,( When do we do that when driving?).

A friend of mine is disabled, and he dismantles his wheelchair, and puts it in the car beside him. Should he really be expected to put it all together, fill up, and then dismantle it again?
@lukecinahgv
@lukecinahgv Жыл бұрын
Just my personal opinion, but if I was in a wheelchair, I wouldn’t want anyone doing it for me. It would make me feel useless. I’d want to prove that I don’t need any help, but that’s just me 🤷‍♂️ I think the main problem was, he was honking flashing, waving, shaking his head like everyone had to drop everything just because he was there . It was a very busy moment in the shop and there really wasn’t enough staff for inside. Let alone to come outside and help. Maybe that is something that should be raised with BP? To be clear, I’m not saying that disabled people shouldn’t be helped. I’m simply saying what if there was an emergency and you needed to get out quickly?

@@lukecinahgv i mean. if it was an emergancy then i guess they just dive out. otherwise they may have to wait for fire crews to assist.

My late friend god rest her sole was disabled after being knocked of her motorbike by a lorry that jumped a red light ( not the topic of this comment as I have driven lorry’s for a living) Still that’s not the point she was in a wheel chair and she would get the chair out on her own and re fuel self sufficiently so I am agreeing with you on the fact that if you can’t manage on your own you should have some sort of assistant that can help Sadly some people will not be of the same opinion

Most fuel stations have disabled help to fill up your car

Never realised this. But I do question if you should be driving if you need help to fill it up.

Should he be driving it in the first place? Well if he can meet the standard to drive, they yeh I guess. Adapted vehicle or whatever. If he or she can’t get out of the vehicle in time, well that’s their risk to take. When I was a bus driver we were taught to evacuate a vehicle in an emergency and always told Abel bodies first and go to the infirm after. But is there an allowance made for the show/tell question on a test for disabled candidates? Guy may have been slightly aggressive (or perhaps over assertive) depending on how long he’s been there. Looked like a small station and perhaps only one employee. Can’t leave the till (read: control system) whilst people are fuelling so you’ve got to wait for a clear forecourt, you’ve then got to head outside and lift the pump so it requests fuel, then go back hit and fill, then go back inside and close the transaction and sort the sale before going back out to the customer with their receipt, change, card or whatever. All this whilst ‘not exposing yourself to risk’ for instance if there’s a group of hoodlums knocking around. Absolute necessity but pain in the a## all the same. Happened to me maybe 3 or 4 times over a few years in petrol work. Usually another customer would cotton on to what’s occurring and sort of help out. Even since leaving the job I’ve helped a couple of times myself when with my own car.

If he can't get out to fill it with fuel he needs the car to be mobile, as a disabled person myself thats all i will say because i don't want to open that can of worms for you on that comment, to be honest i reckon he just had an attitude problem and a massive sense of entitlement
