When you said "they only speak their language, they live in a bubble, they think they're the center of the world" I really thought you were talking about Americans

In USA there is different food from all over the world because Amarica has always been a country of immigration. The immigration in Italy is very recent, and about mexican cuisine for example, we don't have many mexican immigrants in Italy. I have been living in Rome for many years and I have ever met a mexican (maybe one time). What I think is the italian cuisine should be preserved, we are very proud of it. I am also contrary to cuisine of other countrworldies simply because we are in Italy and I think we have the best food in the world.

On my trip to Italy I decided to visit the town where my father’s family came from which is San Basile, Calabria. I hired someone who spoke a little English to drive us there. It was the most wonderful experience of the whole trip! We went into the church which was gorgeous and then the driver suggested that we go into their city hall. They opened the birth records and found my great grandfather and I met the mayor/sindaco. The sindaco had a clerk write a letter in Italian saying that my great grandfather was born in San Basile. We had a wonderful conversation about American politics. I can be a bit introverted so I wished that I had gone out and spoken to more locals. I would love to go back to Italy someday and visit the beautiful beaches like Tropea. Calabria is an area that is mostly overlooked by tourists.

I grew up in Germany but my family is from Calabria. Also in Germany we do not have subtitles for movies and we watch them in German. So it is not all the world except Italy :) Some young Italians in Calabria do speak English. They do learn it in school.

Thanks for this video! I live in Chicago and my family migrated here in the 70s, my family is 99% sure I’m able to obtain dual citizenship. So I want to move to Calabria with the rest of my family out there! You coming from California just inspired me sooo much more, the one thing I think that will get to me; the coldness won’t my whole family is Calabrian 😭 ITS THE FOOD!!! I’ll miss it when I eventually make my move I’m so excited!

Do it!!! I am so glad we got out of California and I’m not saying that lightly. California is beautiful and fun and an amazing place to live for obvious reasons but when I tell You the quality of life here is so much better I really mean it. The food is amazing the beaches are the best. It’s stunning here really stunning. If you can speak basic Italian and you don’t mind slowing life down Calabria will be great. Yes the people are cold at first and they defiantly are not as friendly as Americans but once they take you in they are the best friends you could ask for. I hope they open these boarders soon so people can start visiting tgis place. I intend to make lots of videos about why we moved here and what it’s like. Please come visit we’d love to show you around!! Anytime you have questions please feel free to ask. I’m like the Calabrian welcoming committee haha

I'm also Californian and everything you touched on is legit. Having had access to so much good food makes living in Europe a bit difficult from a food perspective. The closing down and conservative values are also a big concern. I'm still considering Calabria for the prices, and would like to come spend some time there to see if I like it as much as I like Greece (which I'm also considering moving to), so this video is incredibly helpful.
@CalabriaDreaming

So happy you enjoy my videos and yes you are so right. There is an attack on conservative values which is why I love Calabria. Family, honor, traditions and simplicity is the key here. Greece is great I love it too but so much worse off financially imo. If you need help traveling around Calabria or finding homes I love doing that for people. Would love to have you apart of our growing community!

We tried couple times to have a little conversation with neighbors even we are very fluent in Englis. People just dont like foreigners on south! People they think America is the center of the world and expect when,they go to visit other places everybody has to speak English. Then you have to go to very touristy place everybody will speak English. And most of the Europian they speak at least 2 to 3 languages. ❤

I was born in Catanzaro and live between US and Catanzaro . The area is impoverished and have a lot of homeless/poor migrants . It's sad to see but true. The place is the number #2 area for migrants and over populated a region that is NOT able to take care of its residents. Do your own homework and be prepared to see or have people beg for your money .My aunt has had her purse snatched, knocked to the ground and robbed 2 times since 2020. The local police say what can we do as they do not want the hassle of dealing with most likely a street person who did it out of desperation. , Im sorry to give you the hard facts. I live in a home that has been in my family since 1740. There are a lot of North American comforts that you will not get here, that seemed to be skipped in the video. I do a lot of work/ volunteer with the underprivileged and health related persons and I am heartbroken everyday when you see these people and you cant help them. I live between the 2 countries is because Im taking care of elderly family members. So please do your due diligence and don't just take a youtube video to get you excited and be disappointed.

@@CalabriaDreaming I simply cannot wait to get out there! I was raised by my nonna, who grew up in Vallelonga, and have dreamed of going to her hometown forever. Our friend moved his entire family to Cosenza in June (mandatory vaccinations are being rolled out here in Canada, and he wanted the freedom to choose what was right for his children). We feel the same and decided to take the leap shortly thereafter. We land in Naples on October 17th and have rented a car for our first week out there to drive down and do some exploring. We will be passing through Catanzaro (so far Vallelonga, Pizzoni, and Torre di Ruggerio are on our list). Would love to connect, if that’s something you’re open to!

Your channel is the only thing aside from facebook relatives of mine showing these beautiful places in Catanzaro Ionian region. But your camera work is much better and more crisp. Please keep up the good work. My dream is to master brazilian jiujitsu here in the us and eventually retire in Calabria and open the region to practical martial arts, sport jiujitsu & general fitness as the market there seems wide open. A few things about there customs and vehement traditionalism has me a bit hesitant but im going to try one day. I hope.

I am Polish and I am thinking about early retirement (before that I'd be working as expat obviously) and the only problem I see is the language and the Siesta because regardless of how well one handles logistics at point you end up looking for a store in the middle of Sunday afternoon. As long as you are good decent cook you can manage alternative at the house. The fact that they have dubbed movies and stay strong with traditional dishes is beneficial because it scares away "outsiders" not to mention the language barrier. Otherwise it would lost its native charm loooong ago. American trends will find a hard way to get there. There are some other places around Europe that maintain the "local" vibe so there are other options as well - like Albania or Croatia etc. Good content overall! Take care - love from Warsaw!

Electricity is definitely more expensive than the states buoys nothing too crazy. Gas mostly in the winter can get costly but it depends on the house. Internet is fast just like the states. My husband works from home as well and we’ve never had any issues. Calabria has a variety of ex pats living here and I’ve met many Colombians Mexicans and Cubans here. I’m part of the American club in catanzaro and before Covid they used to have events all the time and I met an array of South Americans there. Calabria has only 2 mil people so it’s not a huge population but those who do live here are usually very cool people. But yes it’s very Italian here. Please let me know if you come down south I’m the official welcoming party here lol. Love meeting travelers

And yes making money online is the future. I’m really into crypto and am planning on opening my own business online. Would love to share with you if you ever are curious. Calabria is one of those truly untouched places where big corporations hasn’t gotten to yet where time stood still and you can easily forget that it’s year 2021. It’s wild and raw and stunningly beautiful. It’s great for families with young kids because the kids get to be free here to run around go out on their bikes. Do Black Americans live there and are they friendly towards Black Americans
@CalabriaDreaming
@CalabriaDreaming 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there. Not too many black Americans but lots of black Africans. Mostly they come from Mali Senegal or Libya and are refugees here. But there are many black Italians here as well and yes calabrians are very friendly people. Sure there are your token racists here and there but they do not represent the entire population and are very few in between. Italians are protective of their land and do get upset when the refugees partake in crime etc but if you are a law abiding citizen who does the right thing then I see them being totally accepted here in society. Many interracial couples and families. Italy has a great and long relationship with Africa so I feel like Italy is a pretty open minded and tolerant country as opposed to some other countries I’ve lived in like Poland. I say come here and see for yourself!! You will love it here

On a scale of 100%, 90% of the best people live in the south of Italy. I don't want to say that there are no great human beings in the north, but those in the south never. I am from Cuba and grew up in Italy when I was 12 years old and I confirmed visit all of Italy if you want a more sociable life the south is your option 😉 if you want something not too different from your country well all the north has what you are looking for

Yea totally agree. Of course there are exceptions to every rule and there are great people everywhere but in general he south has very warm people and the north can be very rude and self absorbed. I went to Cuba for a month back in 2015 and I completely fell in love. The people remind me so much of calabrians. They dont have much but they make the most of it and are so very lively and fun.
