Some of these are MS Word Shortcuts we've been practicing for years and now they come quite handy for DAX. Thanks mehn.

Very nice! With regards to pressing the ALT key and clicking on lines of code to generate vertical lines, to perform some operation, like commenting out those lines, you can move the vertical lines up and down, as a whole, with the up and down arrow keys.

Would you be surprised, if I told you that most of these would work in M / Power Query Advanced Editor too! Here are a few other DAX shortcuts I complied - www.goodly.co.in/dax-keyboard-shortcuts-powerbi/

Nice! Thanks for mentioning that. Although the CTRL + / is a little easier to use.

Awesome! There are other keyboard shortcuts outside of DAX as well. Although we have had mix results when using them.

Nice! This kind of tips are awesome. I also found out that the reason why my selected dax code would grey out sometimes, and i couldn't ctrl + c. I have an habit of moving the cursor to outside of the code window when selecting, and that way it doesn't work. I felt dumb. Keep the tips coming!
@GuyInACube5 жыл бұрын
Have hit that before as well. If the focus shifted outside of the editor window, it can make for some frustration. You are not alone. 👊

Ctrl + / can be used for comment and uncomment of DAX. What I am waiting is DAX formatter in PBI desktop and shortcuts for creating measures / coulmns.
@GuyInACube5 жыл бұрын
Yup. we stumbled on that making the video and called it out :) Wasn't documented though. Would love to have DAXFormatter in PBI Desktop, but I doubt it will come.

The thing I struggle with most of all is getting the DAX window to close once I’m done editing the code....if you canvas is completely filled it’s very hard to do....

Agreed. That is a frustration on our end as well. :(

These shortcuts are worldwide, in every text editor genarally, not only DAX
@GuyInACube5 жыл бұрын
True. But, they are relatively new to Power BI Desktop. We've also found that most people aren't aware that they exist.

Hi Patrick. Thanks for this. I've got a question, though. This is something that frustrates me no end. When I have the multi-cursor active and I want to get out of this mode, I have to press Enter since ESC does not do the trick (but it should). To add oil to the fire, after that, however, it looks like I've been thrown out of the editor, even though the code popup does not close itself. Question: How do I get back into the editor with my cursor using only the keyboard? I'm a keyboard-centric dev and hate using the mouse... Thanks for any enlightenment. By the way, when I edit my code and press Enter it does make a change to the model but---again---I can't get into the editor, even though it stays open before my eyes. Frustrating...
@tnclark80125 жыл бұрын
You can reset the zoom level with Ctrl+Numpad 0. Kind of awkward, but that's that 😁
@SteiniJonsson5 жыл бұрын
Ctrl+K, Ctrl+C to comment and Ctrl+K, Ctrl+U to uncomment is standard in all Microsoft dev tools. To block select you can first click on one "corner" of the block to select and then Shift-Alt-Click on the opposite "corner" of the selected text. This is more efficient than click on each line you need to select (if you have to select more than two lines).
@GuyInACube5 жыл бұрын
Nice. Love it. :) We had just stumbled on the CTRL + /. None of those are doc'd though. glad the standard stuff works.
