The story behind this one is...interesting, to say the least. In Japan, these machines were officially licensed (to help meet demand, since it was an unexpected hit), but all mention of Nintendo was removed by Falcon. Then, it saw an unlicensed US release, which resulted in legal action by Nintendo. EDIT: I also wouldn't be surprised if this was based off a prototype of Donkey Kong, since both Crazy Climber and Donkey Kong used Z80 processors, with Falcon rewriting the sound and graphics handling to work on Crazy Climber hardware. That could explain the somewhat different barrel physics, the somewhat janky nature, and the lower difficulty.

Well i tout that this game was ment for the european market and neither japan or the us,but once this game was also released in both the us and japan without nintendo’s permission,nintendo took action against falcon to no longer allow to distribute any units anymore,not even in europe, by the way,how could nintendo had licensed such weird version because the colors and sounds are different with little resablence to that of the original game.

I think Matt Makin is correct, this seems to be built off of the Crazy Climber hardware. The jump sound that Jumpman makes is the same sound that the King Kong character in Crazy Climber makes. I also hear the climbing sound (when climbing the ladders) and the falling sign sound (when Crazy Kong beats his chest) from Crazy Climber. It was the first thing that jumped out at me in this so so knock off.
@douro203 жыл бұрын
Yes, it was originally made to run on Crazy Climber hardware, hence the name "Crazy Kong". They later made their own single-PCB version which still used off-the-shelf TTL chips.
