Crazy Legs, extensive breakdown and - even more important - full build up.
It's been a long time coming, since the August 2013 impromptu recording of the Crazy Legs Basic Form.
( • Crazy Legs Basic Form )
One, if not the most characteristic move in freestyle rhythm skating, known by different names around the world, such as scissors, toe jammin and zig zag, but Crazy Legs being the most common.
Let's first state clearly, that this is our take on this intriguing move; our personal understanding of and experience with this pattern. There are many different versions to do and ways to learn Crazy Legs.
This is simply just one of them, coming from years of experience with coaching and training a wide range of people.
Key element is the very often neglected and/or underestimated `Intermediate Position`, which truly makes or breaks the pattern and flow of any Crazy Legs.
Concentrating on good form is really not about aesthetics; it's all about
A. Using full potential of a technique.
B. Avoid and prevent harm and injury in the short and long term.
This snippet includes:
Basic Ingredients.
Pattern of movement.
Keynotes.
Intermediate position.
Ladder of progression.
Merging motions.
Crazy variations.
Isolated drill.
Constructional riff.
Bonus exercise.
For the sake of simplicity and time limit, we have excluded a whole bunch of details and variation pointers. Sorry `bout that, but we hope this snippet will give you just enough to polish and improve your flow!
And remember, repetition is the mother of skill.
Also, check out the 2021 Crazy Legs in-depth snippet, which zooms in a how to imrpove your Crazy Legs faster and effectively!

Okayyyyyy..... I’m obsessed! I’ve seen a lot of crazy legs, but not as smooth and swagger like you. So many skaters (good skaters) don’t have that upper body flow like you. That should be a class of its own, lol. I want to skate with you now! 🔥

This is great for the up and coming skater, I'm a ol school skater from the late 70's early 80's the disco and early rap hip-hop times. My skate name I was call was Crazy legs also for all the moves I could do on the fly going in and out on the roll with the music. In a tight spot on the floor 6 to 8 people in a crowd I was at my best. It's so great to see how many people are getting back into skating, I'm 57 years old now and I have kept myself in great shape and when I go to get out on the floor with the gray that's in my beard they look at me like yeah " right . But with the right ol school song on, like something from the Almighty Gap Band it's a different look they have Like" DAMN " 😯😯😯. And some have seen me from back in the Days when they were little kids there with their Moms. They come to me and say I are, we remember you, you " are Crazy Legs. Wow " can you show us how to do that and it's not a problem, you just have to feel it with the music and let go of the fear of falling. I was blessed to have never had a fall and broke anything because people would fall and you had to jump are be quick to no how to go around them without getting caught up. One of the moves I had with my partner named James Brown😁 ,he would bounce me up and down while I was doing a split like a yo yo and that's the move so many of them remember and the one called the Jelly legs. But once again it's so great to see all the young people getting back into skating and I hope it here to stay. ❤✌✊ the 80's Crazy Legs 👍

Baby skaters: what people don't tell you about smooth skating.... so much abdominal work. Anything on your toes, heels, any kind of balance work requires ABS, not meaning you have to work outside of the rink, just meaning that when something feels difficult it's because you're using muscles you've never used, in a unique way that will require building those muscles. I didn't have any ab muscle when I started skating, but I can feel myself getting stronger every session. I was at the rink last night tryna see if I could do a whole song walking backwards (while skating backwards) and it's ALL lower abs and back. My back was cramping before I even got around the rink once since it's not used to doing a repetitive movement like that. Challenging yourself is the only way to improve.

Your videos randomly popped into my feed today. You're doing the stuff I wish I could do. I feel like it's going to take 30 years to learn all these moves. I'll be 85 at that point. The last 20 years I've been roller skating once a year on New Year's Eve on rental skates. Last month I bought my first pair of boot skates with hard wheels. I don't know if this old dog can learn new tricks but I keep trying. I don't know where you're located but I'm your new viewer from Ohio.

Great tutorial! I've actually been working on it for several months off and on; having had multiple injuries and surgery on my right knee has made it much slower, but I'm still working on my form. I also have some femoral anteversion (read pigeon toed) since I was a child that has made certain things almost impossible for me skating, but I'm still pt-ing myself through. I don't know if it's my deficits or if I just haven't built my lower leg muscles enough, but I'm still really slow at this one and lacking flow. It's amazing how fluid and effortless you make it look... I'll keep working.

What is your skate set up? Boot, plate, wheels, barrings? I skated as a kid but want to get back into it. I wouldn’t say I’m a beginner but I wouldn’t say I’m on the end of intermediate possibly beginning intermediate(if that makes sense 🤔). I’m also into the Rhythm skating more for Recreational/fun rather than looking to be a “professional”. Although I do want to have the skills. Thx
