Crazy next door neighbours UPDATE - sump pump spewing

So this is the current situation...his sump pump spews out onto our property every 30 seconds when it rains. Also the eavestrough is connected to the sump pump line so even more water goes through. The city originally gave him 30 days to fix it. That passed and now he has 2 more weeks (labour day) or else it’s a court order...we shall see....

Brother, I really wish you the best! You're neighbors are AWFUL as well as AWFULLY lazy. I subscribed to your channel after seeing how great you kept your cool when it came to the fence. Had me hooked. Let's hope they get fined and still have to fix it but for even more money! 😂. Maybe he should of just conceded when you inquired about it with a friendly door knock. I work in the natural gas industry. With how close the gas meter is I would call the gas company. The water is causing a high moisture area near the meter which could cause the riser coming out of the ground to rust out at ground level and leak. They may force him to redirect the water flow to another location on his property. Good luck

Gets some PVC pipes, cut in half, place it at the bottom along the fence, funnel it back on to his property up front. Every time he comes out the front he will step into a pool and have to fix his property. Then and only then will he understand the problem (when it effects him).

Yeah, that's a problem. No one wants that spew all over their driveway. The water could also be running underneath your driveway and could cause the driveway to crack and sink. Keeping going through the city (keep hounding them to do something about it), or the courts. Stay away from your neighbor, you're not getting anywhere with him.

The best place to hit him is in his wallet. Call the city again. Get on his front steps as well. More than 2 steps up require a railing. The deversion of his sump to a downspout means there is more illegal activity on his property. Go online and see what else you can see. The more he needs to fix the more it hits him where it hurts him. Go for it. I dispise asshole neighbors. Lived with to many in my life.

Dont forget to sue for the damages to your yard and fence. You may also want to have an inspection done on your foundation for the house. If that excess water is settling around your foundation it can cause huuuuge problems that are very expensive to fix.

A lot of these writers don’t realise that this is ground water from around the base of the house. It’s the Sump pump that’s pumping the ground water that fills up in the basement that pumps it out side. I have my outside pump attached to a hose so it goes down to the bottom of my garden and waters my plants or directed out to the alleyway. In the winter it freezes so it don’t pump 👍🏽 it’s not from a toilet. 👍🏽

I've been in construction for 23 yrs, first job starting digging around foundations to repair drain tiles, is there no building codes in your province. Eavesthrough are not to be emptied in the drain tile system as they are for landscape drainage to keep moisture away from your foundation. As for his sump pump, that as well should be run out to the main city line, either by direct piping or connected to the joint at the drain time exit to city drain. And his argument is you being on his property.....Mike Homes would have a field day with him.... Call the City Building Codes and report him, only way to correct his drainage is for it to be done right, that will be at his expense and your solution. Good luck, I would have knocked a few teeth put first, good on ya to keep your cool! Cheers!

You could have attached plexiglass to his side of the fence. Driven it 2 feet under ground and 6 feet above ground. Then the water wouldn’t bother you until it gets to be about 6 feet deep. I suspect it would bother him a lot sooner than that, but it would be all his problem.

I forget the guys name now but it's a Canadian contractor that fixes disaster reno jobs on cable network show on a episode a house kept getting water similar set up drains and house foundation and yard was deteriorating because of the water eaves drain , you could probably get a structural engineer check your property and the neighbors may be liable for future damage fyi . Pete I have family in Winnipeg and if your sump pump is not completely running unto your own property 2 city workers come out and deal with it that very day. If homeowner isn't home they get a warning stuck on their door- city takes a video of this and they've got 24 hours after this warning to comply. If city has to move it they charge homeowner. It's time one of your city councillors propose a bylaw on this. This is nuts.

Sue him for Damages that water caused to your Property Foundation and Basement and new fence - using the City Order as Evidence already ruled upon by your local government. File the Civil case in small claims court for $25 which most small claims cases can be up to $5-10k sometimes more. The judge will eat him alive from the videos I have seen and the moment he opens his douche bag mouth. You will walk away with a Judgement - then you can Execute that Judgement against Any property he owns and TAKE it, and also BILL him for "All Collection Costs" meaning - you hire a moving company to show up at his house, with a process server handing him a Writ of Execution - the civil servant will call the police to assist forcibly taking anything and everything of value from his home to cover your costs which he Obviously will not pay. That process server could take his kids Xboxes and anything of value. Just file the small claims - certainly you will win, you have already WON with the City - and that is a sure bet what the judge will agree with, and consider how he has refused to reasonably cooperate, refused to comply with City Orders and now in small claims you will Own his ass. With that you could even place a lien against his home. Small claims you do not need an attorney - they judge settles that simple dispute - and that guys perfectly slimy enough to end up very very disappointed. Rightfully so. Good Luck.

An old favorite in New York was to have the egg throwers lined up in the driveway/street, ring the bell, wait for the a_hole to open the door... Fire. Build a cement border along your property line, about 1 & 1/2 feet to f2 feet tall, then build fence on top of it. That should keep his mess on his side. It would also give you a better ledge to stand on to film. :)
