Why is the euphonium playing lower than the trombone?

Battleship217 it’s fairly common for the euphoniums in marching/pep bands to double tuba parts, trombone parts, or act as a lower harmony for low brass. Although there are certainly other ways euphoniums can be effectively used, this is what I’ve seen done most often in my own experience and tends to be how I usually write for them.
