IMO the R53 is still the coolest of the BMW MINIs (probably mainly because I don't really like turbochargers - I do like the sound of turbo flutter but they just tend to be too unresponsive and the R53 has that nice supercharger whine)!
@davidmatthews30939 ай бұрын
There’s been no problem with the responsiveness of most turbos for decades.
@NeonNightTraveler9 ай бұрын
@@davidmatthews3093well, that probably depends on how perceptible you are to turbo lag. I only have my drivers license for a decade so I'm not speaking of old cars with "horrible" turbo lag - I only ever experienced modern cars with manageable but noticeable turbo lag. With an automatic transmission it's less annoying but I don't like automatic transmissions either (less fun and somewhat unpredictable). For me it's either an EV (haters gonna hate) or a naturally aspirated (or supercharged, I guess) ICE engine with a manual transmission. I've driven modern cars from Mercedes, Audi, and BMW and experienced turbo lag with all of them. And don't just take my word for it, I'm luckily not the only one who thinks so: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmTKd2abnJKEnLsfeature=shared&t=105 So I'd say most modern cars still have some turbo lag but of course that doesn't mean you're wrong - if it's a "problem" or not depends on personal preferences (/ expectations / driving style / etc.). Another issue with superchargers (incl. turbo(super)chargers) is that it's much harder to achieve linear throttle mapping (apparently only few such cars exist).
