Mount Ruang erupted again and led Indonesian authorities to issue the highest alert level.
The volcano erupted early Tuesday morning as a 2000-meter plume of ash shot into the sky.
Following the eruption, locals and tourists were warned of a possible tsunami and to not go within a 7km radius.
A resident of Tagulandang island, 95-year-old Rosalin Salindeho, recounted the moment she saw the eruption after being relocated.
“The mountain exploded. Wow, it was horrible. There were rains of rocks. Twice. The second one was really heavy, even the houses far away were also hit,” she said.

People who are not aware about volcanoes activities would react exactly like I see in some comments. Fun fact: Around 30-45 volcanoes erupts around the world everyday. But these eruptions are on minor VEI scale of 0-3 only. VEI 4 eruption is considered a major one can happen every 1 to 4 years. But VEI 5 eruptions such as this are rare, the last 2 happened in 2022 in Tonga and 2011 in Chile. VEI 6-8 are the most rare type of eruptions since they are super strong. The last VEI 6 eruption happened in Mount Pinatubo in 1991, Philippines which lowered down Earth's temperature for a year. Last VEI 7 eruption happened in Indonesia's Mount Tambora in 1815 which caused the "Year Without Summer" and the last ultraplinian eruption, a super powerful and strong eruption, a VEI 8 one scale happened in New Zealand's Taupo Lake Caldera approximately 25000 years ago, volcanoes that erupted VEI 8 are also known as Supervolcanoes. Now, although VEI 9 scale is not use yet. New research on Toba's last super eruption 74000 years ago suggest that this supervolcano actually erupted 14k km3 of Tephra, making it the strongest eruption in History and a true and only VEI 9 eruption, it's almost 3 times than Wah Wah Spring's last super eruption and 7 times stronger than Yellowstone's largest super eruption. But still, nothing beats Flood Basalt eruptions, these monsters are huge that would make any supervolcano like nothing.

14 km^3 of tephra is a low-end VEI 6, not a VEI 9. The scale is logarithmic - VEI 9 would be at least 10,000 km^3, with Toba's eruption releasing roughly 13,000 km^3 of tephra. Hunga Tonga's eruption was a VEI 6 with PDC deposits >10 km^3, and airfall deposits >1.5 km^3. Ultraplinian eruptions are eruptions with plume heights >40 km; Hunga Tonga was "ultraplinian" in that sense, and so was Pinatubo.

A total of 11,000 people were evacuated from the blast zone, including those who live on the flanks of Ruang itself. Thankfully, there have been no deaths or injuries reported. They got everyone out in time. The eruptive sequence was rated VEI 5, with a total tephra bulk ever so slightly exceeding Mt. St. Helens' 1980 eruption.

@KillberZomL4D42494 Ай бұрын
This Volcano already erupted a VEI 5 scale. It erupted more tephra now than St. Helen's VEI 5 eruption in 1980. I just hope it won't have another one that will reach Pinatubo VEI 6 level. This is now the biggest eruption of the century, although Tonga erupted high end VEI 5, almost 6 eruption in 2022, but since it was short-lived, it's not considered that strong.
@stephenbachman132
@stephenbachman132 Ай бұрын
VEI6 estimated to only happen once every 100 years. So unlikely. No active large volcanoes shown signs of eruption activity. So unfortunately we won't see that If Hunger Tonga Volcano erupted on land that would of been Pinatubo sized
@KillberZomL4D42494
@KillberZomL4D42494 Ай бұрын
@@stephenbachman132 Yeah that estimation was kinda proven wrong in 20th century as 3 volcanoes erupted VEI 6 scale, Santa Maria, Novarupta (If I spelled it correctly) and Pinatubo. But since this only happened once, I guess that estimation is still valid.
@iDeLaYeD_o

Saying something is not as strong because it didn't last as long is a weird take. In a matter of hours Honga Tonga released more tephra and left a large crater under water compared to Ruang's multiple eruptions over the last week (VEI 4 and now 5). Officially this is the second largest eruption since 1992 and Honga Tonga is still above it.
@KillberZomL4D42494
@KillberZomL4D42494 Ай бұрын
@@iDeLaYeD_o Yeah but scientists will always consider how long the eruption happened, so since Tonga was short-lived, they don't find it that strong, although it was still very strong. But scientists are still debating about this eruption, so we'll see the outcome if they're finally in agreement.

it also exists in our atmosphere in a rather 'vital' balance that we are heartily adding Co2 into by the metric megaton daily. you must understand the space which our atmosphere takes up is finite, as are the number of atoms of gas it can contain at a time. exchange all of the Co2 for oxygen and let's crank up that hydrogen ratio and open up some natural gas mines, light up a zippo in hoboken and finish off this snowballing lunacy before it actually gets boring, and not just ill educated, stupid and fun to watch/laugh at.

No it's not. You need at minimum a VEI 6 or a lot of water ejected into the stratosphere, like in the case of Honga Tonga, to have a noticeable cooling effect. All this is going to do is change the colours of the sunset in the southern hemisphere since there is no water involved and the SO2 (Sulpher Dioxide) levels are not that high.

Very little co2 is released by volcanic eruptions comparatively to the overall amount of material and other gases which are released. Still co2 released by volcanic eruptions across an entire year is almost negligible next to the amount produced by human activities, most of what you see in an eruption is ash and tephra, with sulphur dioxide making up the majority of gas substances which are released.

Abstract : The energy that dominates the earth is very great, some of it is natural, like the heat of the sun and volcanoes, and some of it is human action, by cutting down trees, without replacing them and cultivating in their place... There are five forces that control or dominate the planet... 1- The first theory (horizontal dynamic movement) and its end... The occurrence of storms, rain, floods and snow, at unexpected times and places, is because of the expiration of this theory, which needs to be balanced... 2- The second theory (vertical dynamic movement) and its end... This movement or force controls or dominates the earthquakes, earth cracks, drying up of rivers and lakes, earth openings, mountain collapses, and the emergence of drinking water springs on the ground... It becomes out of control... These phenomena increased due to the end of this theory... The third theory: it is water that rotates the earth... The fourth theory: the Earth's axis of rotation has tilted 2° degrees... The fifth theory: The Earth has a new orbit... These studies had completed and sent on July 26th 2000 YOUSIF A TOBIYA

More carbon emission in this volcano explosion than all of the carbon feet print of every human on earth for a year.
@KanyeTheGayFish69
@KanyeTheGayFish69 Ай бұрын
But it also ejected a ton of so2 so it overrides the co2 emissions.
@miniman400
@miniman400 Ай бұрын
Actually its not even close, since most of the gas released in volcanic eruptions isn't co2. Most of the gas is in fact actually sulphur dioxide which usually has the opposite effect of carbon dioxide since it scatters light radiation better, prevent more of it from penetrating the earth's atmosphere.

What? Volcanos cancel out climate change, at least the biggest eruptions do. Volcanoes cause volcanic winter not volcanic summer.

@@makinitsch9113 climate change cannot be stopped, it's always changing, as long the nature is still active like now. If you mean by stop is slowing down the speed of the process then it's still possible. And asking a volcano to pay for what its done is stupid. Volcano gives you treasures so you can live up until now, for free.
