my father once told me about a teacher he used to have in highschool (i think?) who wanted every individual's behavior and posture to be as perfect as possible. he often scolded people for not having their backs straight. one morning when my father was at school, he was pretty tired when arriving, so he rested his head on top of his desk. the teacher told him to straighten his posture, so he lifted his head and rested it on his hand. then the teacher came up to him again and said, "maybe if your family weren't poor hobos, you'd be able to afford a bed to sleep on so you wouldn't be so tired at school!" my dad flipped him off, walked out, and never saw the teacher again.

My mom told me about a teacher she once had who was absurdly strict (to the point that it even pissed off my grandmother). The teacher was giving the students a test and another student simply asked my mom if she could *BORROW A PENCIL* and the teacher responded by *NOT ALLOWING EITHER OF THEM TO EVEN TAKE THE TEST* before my mom even had a chance to respond, and trying to give them both a failing grade! When my grandmother found out, she was absolutely *LIVID* and went straight to the teacher to confront her over it, which resulted in my mom and the other girl being allowed to actually take the test. But seriously, what is wrong with a teacher who punishes a student for simply asking to borrow a pencil, when the teacher hadn't even *handed out the tests yet* to begin with?! Ugh.... Makes me somewhat thankful that the only "bad" teacher *I* ever had merely caused me to literally fall asleep in class (yes, he was *THAT* boring and bad at his job that he could even make *ME* fall asleep in class, and I *NEVER* fell asleep in class)!

How did Jaiden manage to have my old high-school maths-teacher as a substitute when we live on entirely different continents? I cannot explain it, and yet, the description is just too *perfectly* spot on to have been anybody else. (Oh, and that blank slate dude was *absolutely* baked out of his gourd. I'm probably not the first one to come to that conclusion, but c'mon. Pure Reefer Madness, there.)

In my high school science class we had a sub for about a month while our regular teacher was recovering from surgery. One day after we had finished a test some other kids asked what the answers were to questions they had trouble with. I decided to ask about one too but I guess she didn't know the answer, but instead of saying that she said "you'll have to wait until you get the test back to find out." I asked why, since she had just answered like three other questions, and she kind of snapped at me and said she was tired of my attitude. That really caught me off guard. I wasn't known for having an attitude back then, I was the quiet kid. To this day I can't figure out what I did to set her off like that.

I'm surprised everyone can remember their substitutes, unless most people are just young and still in school. For me it was a very rare occurrence that I ever had one, and they were almost always worse than our actual teacher, so I can't remember much about those lessons other than that they were probably going to be boring and/or uncomfortable. In terms of my actual teachers, I do recall one that had a permanent grimace as though she was sucking on a lemon tart (very dour personality). And the only detention I ever received came from having forgotten my homework _once_ in one particular class, I want to say either French or cooking. I was then very amused at the hypocrisy of a school inflicting reading as a punishment when the English department heads were trying to get kids interested in reading. I just had a pleasant, quiet hour with a book of choice (The Godfather, IIRC). Most of my teachers were great, though. One in particular I had for English I was very fond of. He taught both the highest and lowest ability sets; everyone in our group loved him but the bottom set apparently loathed him. Though I imagine what he had to put up with in that group. I mostly think being a substitute must just be very awkward in general. Being routinely thrust into a classroom full of children you don't know and made to be responsible for conducting lessons would make me anxious as hell.

We actually used to have a older sub in 3rd grade. He was about in his 50’s/60’s and *EVERYBODY* liked him. He would usually step in to teach the L.O.T.E class (language other than English) and he usually only talked about his small dog and art for the entire class. Sometimes he showed us art his other students did and art tips, and some pictures of his small dog and scars of how he bit him in the past (they were some pretty deep scars) And also in 3rd grade, nearing march our teacher had a long break for the rest of the year because she had a baby and a sub stepped in to teach us. I won’t say what her name was but all I’ll say is that everybody joked about calling her Mrs Pringle. She was German and overall was a lovely sub. And yes, the class got to see the original teacher’s baby nearing the end of school, it was a she and everybody surprised her with a lovely baby shower.

One time my drama teacher went on leave for a few weeks and we got a substitute that was supposedly a proper drama teacher. I say supposedly because this woman tried to convince us that method acting wasn't a real acting technique. Everything had to be done the exact way she wanted or else it was wrong. She once chided me for not wearing a costume for an in class performance, saying that it broke the immersion. The only reason the other kids in my group had anything resembling a costume was because we went through the prop room, there wasn't anything in there that fit me and suited my character so I just wore stage blacks. Also for someone so specific in her mindset she was surprisingly inattentive. Once during class me and a few friends made a Macca's run and she didn't notice. We brought the food back to school and shared it around our practice groups in the hallway and she still didn't notice. Everyone hated her and we were so happy when our normal teacher came back.

I remember having a substitute teacher who got so mad at a kid for standing up for a bit without permission that, instead of showing a movie, whipped out a violin, and started to play without a word. This went on for about 5 minutes until he stopped because he SNAPPED THE STRINGS. He then bit them off, stating, ''Never fear!'' We didn't end up watching a movie. He claimed to know the teacher, so anything we did would go straight back to her. We talked to her about him, and she said she hadn't heard of him before then. Edit: I forgot about the teacher who took away my book when I read in class, called me her ''living doll'', and told a girl with a high voice to ''stop talking in that weird voice''

When I was like 11 years old we had a substitute teacher for like a couple weeks that was obviously still very young, like in her twenties, and you could see she had close to no experience with children. One time a bunch of kids were gathered around her in the middle of class asking her questions about the homework and the subjects we were learning. She didn't know how to handle all of them talking and questioning her at the same time so she just started getting more and more irritated and at one point one of my classmates behind her had called her like 4 times and the teacher was still talking to other kids so the girl called her once more and istg this lady does a 180 turn at the speed of light and yells "WHAT??!!!" in the face of this 11 yo girl. She jumped in place and quietly said "can I go to the bathroom?" and the teacher was like "OKAY WHATEVER!!!" and turned back to talk to the other students. I remember sitting at my desk nd turning to look at my best friend like "bro are you seeing this shit?????"

In high school we had this substitute teacher we called "Mr sculpture". In my school when a teacher was missing we had this system: the teacher would have sent to our class email address an email with explained what to do. Every substitute followed this system except for Mr Sculpture, no, he shouted weird art lessons (let's be clear, he wasn't an art teacher, he had a music degree) which were all about the early Christian sculptures and their place in propaganda against the.... "arian jews". Despite nobody listening, despite everyone telling him to let us do our tasks and not bother us with some non requested lessons, he continued for two years, until he got retired.

I had a sub so nervous yet unaware that he didn’t notice that a kid from a completely other class was in the room and stayed there for the entire lesson just f*ing around. The kid even wore a “disguise” (sunglasses). It was hilarious. It honestly looked like we were more in charge than him because of how oblivious he was. I just sat there doodling and listening to all the drama XD.

In england we don't have subs we have this thing called 'cover'. Its when a teacher isn't in and the kids who have that teacher go to the 'cover room' and to worksheets and stuff. They sometimes set work on computers or if you're well behaved you're allowed to go on the computers. One of the cover teachers is pretty strict and the other one is OK, but sometimes she also gets mad. The problem with cover in my school is that when you're in cover and there is more than one class, you're not allowed to talk at all. You can't even whisper with the person next to you and it kind of sucks.

What I remember is a long term substitute teacher from elementary school (for some 6 months because the regular teacher was on maternity leave). Now she couldn't do the usual trick of not teaching anything, because it wasn't a one time thing. But she had no sense of authority, so she resorted to over the top constant screaming to clarify she actually intends to teach. So my friends and I weren't about to suffer verbal abuse for minor whispers so we kinda rebelled. We'd bother her on purpose and make sure she couldn't teach. I guess the theory was if she sees the hard way doesn't work she'd revert back to a more reasonable approach. Anyway we ended up in direct confrontation for 3 months before she switched. Maybe it was worth it. At the height of it I called her an idiot and pleaded that she'd stop teaching us, which I ain't proud of. The funny thing is some years down the line she switched jobs and I met her at some gathering she catered for and sort of apologized. That was odd.

I remember my English substitute teacher (I'm from a non-English speaking country) who marked one of my answers wrong when I had it clear that it was right. Alright, so, for context, my language is seriously gendered. Like, there's this thing called "gramatical gender" that almost every adjective or noun has. So, normally, in the English exercises of translating a phrase from my language of origin to English, you can just translate the pronouns of the subject of the sentence thanks to the gramatical gender of the original phrase. But it turns out that in this specific exercise, one sentence was worded so there was no gender implied, so I translated the pronouns as "they/them". The teacher tried to put me a "wrong" mark, because *obviously* the pronouns had to be he/him. I argued with her that the sentence was gender neutral, so I should use "they/them", and she straight up told me that they/them was only a plural pronoun and mustn't be used as a singular, neutral pronoun. I literally cried out loud during weeks and weeks due to the rage. It seriously pains me when I'm right about something and I'm still punished because the figure of authority is convinced they're in the right.

i had this one sub that no one is excited to have. she's 93. in case that didn't speak for itself: when she takes attendance, she would pronounce someone's name correctly, then say it again incorrectly, like she assumed the correct pronunciation was wrong. she tries to be strict, but she has a sweet voice, so it just makes everyone laugh somehow. there's a guy who was in one of my classes (we'll call him joe) who always tries to do something that will get the sub mad, just so she can "yell" at him in her sweet little voice. she knows nothing about teaching, so she always follows the exact guidelines that the school gives her. she forces us to leave our phones in a box when we go to the bathroom, and she signs us out. she doesn't let us go anywhere when someone else is already out of the room. she doesn't let us use earbuds, even when it's for the assignment we were given. she tells us not to talk in class, then she asks someone a random question that should be self-explanatory. there's my crazy sub story.

Here's a story about the best sub I've had in school so far. My math teacher is like Mr. YetToBeThrownOutLemon. Let's call her Mrs. Smith, for simplicity. She will yell at anyone if they're talking, tell people off for not wearing a mask (despite the fact that she has hers off for the majority of the class), and get mad if anyone is even a little bit within 3 feet of eachother. So, about 2 or 3 months ago, Mrs. Smith's daughter gave birth, so she was supposed to be out for a week. *Best news of my life.* Everyone seemed excited. So, when the day came, we were introduced to our amazing sub, which we will call Mrs. Johnson, once again I'm unoriginal. The entire class loved her, and some kids even said they learnt better with Mrs. Johnson then with Mrs. Smith. She never yelled at us a single time, and even told us hilarious stories about kids she had taught before, and almost always let us work in groups. Once the week was over, I was really sad that she wouldn't be subbing for us anymore. Then more great news popped in. Mrs. Smith was gonna be out for another week. *Also some of the best news I've gotten.* In conclusion, everyone loved Mrs. Johnson. End of story.

But the thing is, we absolutely could not be quiet in math. I guess just because we were bored or something, but we just couldn't stay quiet. So, after several times we got to loud, she banned talking. We still could not stay quiet. Then she said something like, "You're just being DISRESPECTFUL at this point. If anyone talks now, you're being sent to the principles office." and i was just like, you have way too high an opinion of us, we can't not talk. we were quiet after that tho.

I had a pretty regular history sub that would call everyone a communist and do karate practice during work time. The man was 86 at the time.

Once I had a substitute teacher in the fourth grade, and our class misbehaved a lot, so we got a really strict teacher. At one point she got *really* mad because we were talking so much that she yelled at us and swore at us and took away our recess. Then we never saw that substitute again.

Yooo Lixian literally voice acted in this and then a few years later became Markiplier's editor. That's crazy.

One time we had a sub that we all thought was chill, she was nice and she let us talk while we worked and we told her some of the crazy sh-t our HS did which, yeah, we all thought was something that an adult needed to handle- The next day when our normal teacher was back though he got onto us all for the 'private' things we told the sub because she apparently wrote them all down and left a note saying we were disrespectful and so on and so forth Then when she subbed again like two weeks later she made a joke about us all seeming "So much quieter than last time, what happened?" and everyone stayed silent but me and the guy across from me had a word doc we shared for things like this and he legit wrote "Maybe because we all figured out you're a snitch?" which, yeah, she just sorta reaffirmed that we couldn't trust the teachers we had with that sh-t

My substitute teacher is my history teacher, he's my favourite! He teaches us, but he often tells us funny jokes, sometimes he spares us, and sometimes he don't. But I like him anyways!

I had a sub for my 11th grade French class, and I had her before and she was pretty crazy, she then starts to speak the worse French I've ever heard. Now this was a French culture and language class so we didn't really speak French much unless we we're reading something, so one kid raised their hand and politely said that we don't speak French unless we have a speaking part. She goes bat shit crazy, yelling that we we're all disrespectful and we we're not going to graduate for that attitude. There was a whole lot more that happened in that one class but this was the only thing that popped in my head.

Honestly besides the grumpiness of Mr yet to be thrown out lemon, I would love a substitute who would ask how to properly pronounce my name. My name is EXTREMELY hard for Americans to say on their own, so most never bothered, and it kind of hurt me. Lol

Yeah... So, is it weird that every teacher I've had either just passes the papers out or outs it in a stack for us to grab? It seemed normal enough to me.

It sounds like you had fun teachers. i have this one substitute teacher before Covid, and the one kid was clicking his pen and just making alot of noise with his binder looking for the worksheet, she got insanly annoyed and took his binder and all of his work away from him. then 5 minutes later she yelled at him again for not working and not having his stuff out. Shes insane.

My math teacher, who i hate, always has the same sub. I happen to love that sub. She's this really sweet Chinese woman, and she taught us how to say hello in Chinese. Also she opens the windows and leaves the blinds up so we can see outside so that's a plus

I used to sometimes get a sub who would spend half the class teaching everyone tai chi. She was adorable. Another sub I remember was one who had the same first and last name and his middle name was really similar, too. We all wondered why his parents would do that to him. We would call him triple A because his initials were AAA 😂 He was super chill, too. One of my neighbors would also sub frequently and she would start talking to me in class and I hated it because I was really shy and didn’t like the attention.
