@@Robert-iu4bxi can't tell you how to do it but if your speed is just right, the water in front of the car will be lower than normal. Same thing happens with boats when their speed is just right. Compared to the amounts of oil, grease, coolant and other fluids that get dumped into the water by other motorists I'd consider a bit of plastic to be a minor concern. Unnecessary? Sure, but so are 95% of the crossings at this point.

Yep , can't believe they'd try it it most of those. A lot are petrol which can get water into the electrics and cut out (if they're lucky) some will hydraulic ( I suspect the audi did that) , that's a major , I have a high clearance 4wd diesel and even I'd take it slowly, there's no need to tear through like you're going to get stuck.

What most people forget is if its a turbo engine and gets slightly flooded but still turns over amd starts eventually the first thing they do Is rev it all thats going to do is put any water that's in the intercooler straight into the engine so its hydrolocked good and proper, you need to drain everything before you attempt a restart, plugs or glows out intercooler pipes off.

It could as your car would keep some of the water away from the engine bay and in its wake. In a short fording like this it could work, but if the distance were much longer I don't think it would matter much.

You would think in a country that has so much rain that drivers would be more savvy in how to cross a flooded causeway or not cross it . I once balked at crossing a fast moving flooded road but a guy behind me blasting his horn and going on like a lunatic rushed around me and was last seen floating away down the flooded creek . I just waved and yelled out bon voyage and turned around and went home and reported it . There was nothing else I could do . No mobile phones in those days . Later on the news I heard he drowned .
