He's not denying the crime. He's saying it was set up to ensure he was easily identifiable. When it's done properly, the perpetrator is treated as a suspect and not an obviously guilty party. The very reason for it is to test the victim's testimony without influencing it.

This guy is an educated person, either a varsity graduate or a former law enforcement officer. There's no how he could utter all that legal jargon and the English generally with ease comprehension if he isn't from such a background. Unless he's a repeat offender who has been through numerous trials in court and got used to the jargon.

Criminals have learnt the art of studying their opposition, they gather and share knowledge on laws, police tactics and judgement procedures. The general public is ignorant about laws that can potentially get them behind bars just because of lack of basic understanding of words used in law books. The criminals know this and cleverly manipulate the system that's why you see a lot go scot free because of flaws in police operational procedures
