hi! i made rowbot rally and hexa - thanks for trying 'em out!! i think playdate is a really cool console to develop for - it's super easy to get started and make something, and the community is full of other devs so it's really fun to hang out and easy to get help. if you're considering picking up the console and also have been wanting to dabble in game dev as a hobby, it's well worth looking into for that aspect as well as the breadth of games available to play

This handheld needs more mainstream advertisements . it's more of an obscure nish handheld , most of the public probably never heard of the Playdate. Could see these selling well if they did that.

Over 1000 games sounds very impressive. I don't own a Playdate myself, but if it wasn't so overprice and had a backlit screen, I'd be tempted to get one at this point.

The PlayDate looks so cool! I really want one! BUT it costs about $275 with shipping and customs duty to get one here in Europe (I’m in Sweden).

@@OriginalGrasshopper It is very cool, but totally over priced. Apparently they make very little from these units as they are expensive to manufacture. $275 is just crazy though. I'd say its worth no more than $100.

I treated myself to a playdate and looking forward to when it arrives to play with it and mess around with it on the gamedev learning side of it as well. Heard nothing but good things about the uniqueness of the handheld. I agree with what others are saying about it, that it defenntly needs more advertisement within the public eye itself. I find it a highly interested device twist on how to play games with. I also think the price is reasonable as well but could be lowered to at least $200 just like a regular Nintendo console to get more people interested in this crafty lil device for sure not at the regular $249 that is it though. I'm hoping they will occasionally do constant sales on it in the upcoming future to try n get peoples interest though.

To all thos complaining about the cost: At the end of the day for me the Playdate is my most used gaming device. Having a novel input method, the 1 bit graphical constraint combined with good dev tools results in a great selection of novel games and game concepts. If you value hardware specs and the ability to play pirated roms the Playdate is a bad value proposition, but as an eco system for handheld indie games for me its definitly worth it. Also the SHARP memory LCD is the only screen I have that gets better in ultra bright light, perfectly complementary to my backlit devices that start to suck outside even on overcast days.

Very interesting games on this machine. I have enjoyed the one which you particularly covered on your channel. 👍. Seems to be a popular theme to make ALIEN style games on handhelds though! Xeno Escape, Alien Girl. Also the one. I forget the name of? It looks like a modern alien 3 type of game?! 🤔. I agree with you though the price point is way too high!

You've inspired me to dig out my Playdate. It's been a long time since I last used it. The battery is well and truly dead 😂 Mind you, I stopped using it not because I got bored of it, but because my crank is now really loose and doesn't hold its position any more, making games that heavily use the crank a bit awkward to play. On a side note, did you see that limited edition pizza box cover? I was too slow and didn't manage to get one but think it looks brilliant!

​@@CrazyBurgerI was too slow off the mark and when I tried to order it had already sold out. I've got the standard purple cover. As with the Playdate itself it's a bit pricey for what it is, but well worth it I think.
