Ugly face jugs are highly collectable. Prices can go from next to nothing to over a thousand dollars. Look for a signature. Several names can be linked to slaves. That Lalique vase would have had a retail for today's pricing at $1500 to $2000. The brass duck at $12.94 is less than scrape value. You can easily triple your money. There are always hunters looking for good pieces for their trophy room man caves.

I think that creepy kind of box at the end is called a "descancio". It is something folks in Mexico make to honor someone who has died. Have you ever seen the Disney animated movie "Coco"? It's part of the "Day of the Dead" ("El dia de los muertos") celebration and describes the "descancio" well.

As for the "lizard-eyed cat", I was just remarking on how real its eyes looked! That is how cats look, when photographed with a flash, yellow or green, with the exception of color-point or Siamese cats, like mine. Their eyes reflect in orange.

00:12 J: "I have not been here in one week." Me: 🎵 "It's been: one week since you shopped at me ..." 🎵 01:33 That must be a Cynthia Aldrich piece. She's down in Durham, North Carolina and is still actively working. 02:44 Now if that isn't just blatantly ripping off the dogs playing poker, I don't know what is. (I do like all the seashells, though.) 04:49 With that enormous crest, I took him to be a cockatoo. 06:02 It's an Aztec Sun Stone - a bit coarse in execution, but even so far better than some I have seen in my time. 06:33 "Dummy," eh? They must be a cosmetics-counter display grouping, the kind of thing you might have seen on a shelf eighty years ago at Wanamaker's. 07:30 It's still a pretty cool and amazing MCM bar set, dishwasher or not. 08:54 Oh, no no no. That much bleeding makes it almost unsalable. 09:47 Yes, you definitely need the box. The two round pieces are good fraktur redwork in nineteenth century frames. 11:42 I would be all about that set of sake cups. 12:46 She's a good nineteenth century French sphinx. I sure wish her mate was there. 18:09 It's marked Versace. And I think the ladies are supposed to be Gorgons.

If I am not mistaken, that “ monster head” is an ugly jug. They were popular during the colonial period to store poisonous liquids because they were so ugly that children would not bother them. Parents would make up scary stories about them to make them even less appealing. I have a small one ( a reproduction, of course) that I purchased At Coloniel Village in Huntsville Alabama. I love them!
@zoesmall95334 жыл бұрын
The UGLY JUG has value. Made to ward off evil. They are usually made down south. Many come out of Georgia and the Carolinas. There is info on the Internet. The maker also plays a big part of their value. 50 was an excellent price. I love it. 🎃

6:39 the Evening in Paris cobalt bottle fragrance was probably a store sample and had fake perfume or colored water in it so that's why it said dummy because it wasn't made to be sold, just displayed. If you ever see perfumes that say " Factice " on the bottle, it is the same thing because " Factice " is French for " Fake " :-)

Wow! That midcentury bedroom furniture is SO CHEAP! In Australia those pieces would be between $500-$800 dollars each (depending on which city you’re in). Beautiful pieces.

The cobalt bottles: ‘Evening in Paris’ cologne was a ladies fragrance sold in dime stores like Woolworths and Kresses. I was a little girl in the ‘50’s growing up in Georgia and remember seeing it there. (Guessing the word Dummy etched on it could mean sample. It appears it was added more recently.)
@juliebrooke60994 жыл бұрын
I think maybe ‘dummy’ indicates they were just empty bottles intended for display purposes.

You definitely need a bid number!! That ugly 50 dollar thing had a bid of 3 dollars on it. I would not pay 50. 🎃😷🧡
@danielclaeys75984 жыл бұрын
This is just a little advice for people in retail of any kind. Don't get caught in the trap of projecting what you can afford to pay on your customers and clients. We aren't mind readers and in all actuality have no clue exactly how much someone else is willing to pay. Always remember to look for quality when buying even if it isn't exactly your taste. In the end, it doesn't have to be in your house. When you have your booth in a mall or you are stocking an entire store, be there. Never judge the proverbial book by its cover. Never ask a question that can be answered by a yes or no answer. Engage with your customers, even if briefly. Use some light humor. When I see a customer that has to touch everything, I look at them and remind them that it's a sin to covet and by buying it, they are getting right with God and no longer sinning. Once you hook them with a laugh, they are more likely to buy.
@susanma48994 жыл бұрын
I think that strategy would probably work on me, lol.
