I was having a fit watching this!!!!! Vintage Halloween collectors buy all year, those blowmolds were great and at the right price you could have made profit. The Gurley brand figurine candles sell well but need to be shipped in colder months. Please reconsider doing Halloween listings all year you might be surprised! I love your videos!

Thanks Jocelyn Elizabeth for another joyous romp through an antique & oddities shop. Looks like there were finds galore for every taste. I liked how it rambled all over the place inside that old house, with lots of lovely nooks and crannies. The blue dog looked very sweet with its one eared cocked up quizzically as if begging the question, "Will she take me home with her this time?" So did you? It looked like a nice example of a crazy quilt too, and twenty nine dollars would be a good price for it out here. I hope Sue snapped it up. For myself I am not over fond of the crazy quilt style, mostly as the fabrics used tend to be either silks or wool, neither of which suits my fancy. Silk being too fragile and wool from that period too scratchy...well that and my allergy to wool. I have a wool tacked quilt made in the 1920's that was made up of suit sample's belonging to my husbands grt. grandfather. He was for a time a traveling suit salesman, traveling from town to town, showing the different suit shops his fabric sample's and taking orders. The quilt was made by his wife and daughter, when the daughter was in high school. The blocks sewn together by her mother are very well done, the added backing however was done by the daughter on a treadle sewing machine and very poorly executed. It will always be a cherished heirloom however, as Caroline, for so the daughter was called, was a beautiful girl, adored by her two older brothers. She died tragically at the age of sixteen of the Spanish Flu. This is the only thing made by her that we know of and so it means a great deal. I always wish every quilt could tell its story. The hands that carefully made it. The folks who spent cold nights cuddled up under it. The furniture wrapped up for safety during a move, and every the lowly horse or cow who may have found warmth from under it. Quilts were used for so many things, and I am sure each has a very interesting story if only it could talk. Have a wonderful day Jocelyn Elizabeth. You and Sue bring so much joy!

I have been watching your videos for awhile...I came across them because I watch a lot of dumpster diving videos, anyhow what caught my eye was your Name 🤗. I grew up going to thrift stores, antique shops, "junk stores" (which I thought @ the time was a giant treasure store 🏰😃) which I still think they are! As the saying goes, "One man's trash is another man's treasures" 😁. Anywho the point to my story was I started thrifting as a young'n thanks to my Grandfather Daniel who's now passed, he was my father figure & took care of me while my mom worked. She was a single mother of 3. I didn't think anything of going to the GW bins, little, ma & pa thrift shops, old junk yards .....he'd take me to I thought of them as our adventures. I think what you do as a family is so neat & your children will remember it when they get older 💕. Happy hunting 😁👏👍. Take care & much love 💖

I always loved pins because I am allergic to so many different metals. They always have so much character. When I go to yardsales and thrifting I have been picking up cheap in bulk. I have 3 nieces getting married this year and I am goin to make them jewelry bouquets. They will all be different because I am trying to find different pieces that remind me of each girl. When I first saw one I loved it because they can last a lifetime when real or even fake flowers cant. A lady that lives in my town makes jewelry art. She does a picture in a frame. She doesnt paint it she makes the pictures with jewelry. They are all different and beautiful. So when the bouquets are done I want to use the extra to do Christmas gifts for friends and family.

In my humble opinion, the best piece on the jewelry tray, was the oval, gold filled locket with seed pearls, (lower left hand corner of top tray at 3:00). Without a bit closer look, it appeared to be of the Victorian / Edwardian era and indicative of mourning jewelry. It may have held the photo of someone's dearly departed, or perhaps a lock, (sometimes woven,) of their hair. There is a considerable collector base for them and they tend to bring quite nice prices at online auction. That piece alone, in good condition, when sold, would most certainly pay for the entire tray at $45.00 and perhaps give you a profit to boot. The other pieces, at that point, are freebies. Art Deco is exceptionally hot at the moment. The blue stone piece, bar pin at the top and stick pin were just that. The stone piece however, appeared to be as is. Lady legs and hands are such fun and also sell well. Maybe the tray is still there. Buy it! Thanks for sharing.

Ooo!!! You've got an eye for costume jewelry! I think we would have lots of fun together. I know a little bit about costume jewelry, but I'm so eager to learn more. As I am sure you know, there is lots of money to be made in costume jewelry. I know the obvious pieces to look for but there is so much I'm missing and I hate that feeling.
@connie7366 жыл бұрын
The fact that you're out there looking is what's important. Check out completed listings for highest sold lots on for example, Ebay regarding the different eras, eg; Deco, Victorian, mod, etc. to get a feel for valuable pieces. Then move on to substance, eg; rhinestone, enamels, moulded & poured glass, cut steel, the early plastics, semi precious stones such as coral and amber and so on. Designers and marks are important. Look for them. Familiarize yourself with the biggest names, eg, Haskell, Carnegie, Chanel, Eisenberg, Crown Trifari are just the tip of the iceberg. Don't necessarily pass up unmarked beauties though. Some design houses did not mark their pieces, instead they were fitted with hang tags, others didn't mark all pieces. Quality of workmanship is very useful in determining whether an item is important and will bring a nice return and I'm sure that you know that condition is tantamount to value. I could go on forever. There's so much to learn, but if you keep at it, soon you'll find yourself noticing it everywhere. Always take a moment to look. It's an affliction, albeit a wonderful one. Much luck and have a ball.
@CrazyLampLady6 жыл бұрын
Connie Thanks so much, Connie! That is exactly how I have learned all that I have learned. I study the selling trends on various items such as lamps and vases and figurines. I’ll search “vintage ceramic lamps” and start at highest sold and just start scrolling. I have a photographic memory that way. And then I study the styles and forms. I imagine jewelry would be much the same. There are just so many different designers. And lamps, vases, and design elements are so easy because they fall under a certain stylistic category-Art Deco, MCM, Art Nouveau, Hollywood Regency. I don’t find that rule with jewelry and I think it makes it harder for me to latch on. When I am shopping for costume jewelry, I do look for certain marks and jelly bellies. I’m such a sucker for jelly bellies!

Oh my goodness, the wonderful things that folks cast off. I've been seeking out antiques and collectibles for many years. The thrill of the hunt is what's always had me. I see the same in you, whether in your detecting vids or thrifting. Getting a bit of age on me now, so I stop at fewer and fewer yard / garage sales, but just can't pass up the church rummages and estate sales. I started out under the naive assumption that everything old was valuable. Boy, was I wrong. Subsequently, I found myself sitting on gaggles of stuff that was difficult to resell. Took some to auction once and was underwhelmed with the result. As you can imagine, I wound up stuck with things, I couldn't use and didn't necessarily want. So, yes, alot of things from my early hunts went on to charity or to the bin. Years later, I opened a store, sold lots of goodies and enjoyed every minute of it. I'm finally, giving it up, (at least the big stuff) and am officially downsizing my life. Kind of happy about it.The longer you look and learn, the easier it becomes to separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak. I've always picked up jewelry, because, why not? I love it. Sold singles and lots alike, without paying it too much attention. Then one day, I attended the estate sale of a well respected, socialite in my locale. I got my number, (92, ugh) and waited in line for my turn to enter her beautiful, rambling home. Once in, I found myself in the library, where a few remnants of costume jewelry remained after having been picked over by the 91 people who had seen it first. Not much left but a few bits and bobs and some rosaries. I hurriedly picked up the only brooch there was lying there, thinking, hmmm... is it pretty enough for $5.00? and quickly went off on my way through the rest of the mansion. Later at home, I looked it over and found that it was indeed signed Trifari and had that special, little crown over the T. I decided to look around the internet to see if I could find anything about it. I did. It was a piece by noted designer Alfred Phillippe for Trifari. One similar, but not the same had sold, with a different primary stone, some time before. I dusted it, cleaned it a bit and listed it. A $1,600.00 closing bid later and I was hooked on jewelry for life. You've got what it takes to be next and when you do, I hope you'll share it with us. God bless.

Connie Ohhhh, Connie. You know what my first costume jewelry flip was? It wasn’t nearly as amazing! But I was about thirteen and my mom and grandmother dragged me to a Salvation Army. And I saw this little rhinestone cat pin in the jewelry display. I bought it. And found it about ten years later in a drawer. Saw the Trifari mark on the back. I sold it for $100 bucks! It wasn’t $1,600! But it made me think... there might be something to this costume jewelry thing. And now I always look for Trifari at least. The good Trifari anyway. ☺️

Violetta Butler The #13 is usually considered an unlucky number, so they would throw out or break the #13 therefore making them very hard to come by.
