In the middle of watching this my mail carrier delivered my 75HD. I definitely understand the heartache with the galvanic corrosion between the screws and the sink and the leaky 10uF 16V SMD caps. I've got hundreds of them on hand.

Great amps, hopefully this series helps you decide if you can fix them or if you should send them out for service. My hope is that everyone can rock thier old amps again.

All of the Gen 2 Punch 45s that use the TL494 have serial numbers starting with AF, also known as the all-FET design. Also for some reason, probably cost, the LED is actually part of the voltage divider for the op-amps, so it's imperative to make sure that LED is present before powering on the amp.

Do you repair Rockford amps? I have a punch 75hd. It worked the last time it was hooked up and is currently sitting in my closet. I was thinking about hooking it up, but I’d prefer it to be looked at to make sure there isn’t any unforeseen issues.

Just went and dug two out of my pile. 1979-80 - 82. One has the serial number scripted into the back with an engraver I think that’s the oldest one I still have the other one has a sticker The oldest one I had but no longer do was bare aluminum and had all the info written in masking tape by hand. It was given to me by a guy that I helped because he’d broke down on I-95 headed home from a big car show in Miami. I lived in Camden county GA woodbine last county in GA on the coast before Florida He said he was a rep for several audio companies and the RF was pretty much unknown and drew lil interest at the show but said it was amazing. He was right. . Wonder if sending them to RF for testing and or repair is wise? Anyone delt with them?

Can you confirm which wires are used for bridgeing this amp (45 not the HD)? Can it be bridged doing a mixed mono/stereo set up?
@Crazylogix0074 жыл бұрын
The 45, 75, 150, 45HD, 75HD and 150HD can all be ran muxed mono/stereo. All of them are bridged using the orange(left pos) and brown(right neg) wires. Stereo is yellow and brown, right side. And orange and black left side.

I purchased a 1999-2003 RF punch 801s amp, I followed your recommendations on testing the mosfets, caps, etc. The guts is in preety good shape but the transformer no so much, smells burnt and looks as if it has been overworked beyond it's capabilities, seems that the transformer emits a lot of heat judging from the burn marks on the base plate. Powered up the amp and surprisingly it powers up so I hooked up one 8ohm speaker on each channel, a two channel amp BTW and the amp works but when you place your nose close to the air ports on the battery and ground side of the amp the burnt smell is more obvious. Need some advice, due to the condition of the transformer, will this affect the amp's output and the amp won't play at it's rated rms also will this contribute to additional heat on the amp. I have not placed a 4ohm or 2ohm load on the amp because I don't want to burn any components also any tips on what can be done to resolve any excessive heat generated by the amp, I have learnt so much from your videos and will really like one day to be able to repair my own amps, excellent videos, thank you Sir
@Crazylogix0074 жыл бұрын
I have an 801s exactly like this and i too thought the transformer was toast. However it seems very common in these amps and Rockford put a coating over them that likes to discolor and stink a little. It is common for them to have made a make on the bottom plate too. Look for a upcoming short video on the 801s I have.

Carefully remove the cover and check the PIM card for leaked caps, probably corroded a little and has affected the one side.
