It has some sonic 3 (and knuckles) refrences like that Giant robot is taken from sonic and knuckles's final Boss Or snowboarding/tundra scene is refrence for ice cap zone from sonic 3.

Also did you know that the labyrinth from some scenes is refrence to labyrinth zone from first sonic game? It has also some hidden palace (sonic 2 scrapped level (remade to sonic and knuckles)) refrences.
