Gouche is opaque it would cover up some of the mica. Transparent watercolors less so. Gum arabic is what they used to use on postage stamps and envelopes to stick them. It comes from a tree

Hah! Great video thank you so much! I have so many little Mica Powders and I saw a video of someone recommending gum arabic but did not mention any specific one... Saw this exact bottle on Amazon but was not sure how good it was. I am SO appreciative that you took the time to make this video, definitely saving this for reference. Tytyty! 😍🤗

That was very interesting ...thank you... I do have old mica powders from when they first came out about 20 yrs ago so I only have golds, silvers,bronzes and whites... I love the fact that you can get so many colours these days... needless to say I am a very old crafter both in years and experience! but I am always willing to learn so thank you once again... :)

I wud use some black embossing powder to stamp the flower to give good crisp lines or black ink with clear embossing powder, thankyou for experimenting with these powders, I have the 60 set but haven't yet tried them out so was looking for some inspiration for them as they are gorgeous, very happy I found your video x

When you use dry mica powder w with gum Arabic or Perfect Pearls like you did on those flowers you have to remove extra powder with a soft brush then lightly mist with water in a micro mister to set the mica/gum Arabic or Perfect Pearls. The water is what activates the binder.

Nice tutorial. I have the Pearl Ex mica powders and have mixed with clear embossing powder and the powder using Versamark ink. The result is beautiful. Have a few more experiments to do myself, but the key seems to be you must use some medium that will "bind" the mica powder or it just comes off. Once I have the technique I want to use down pat, may expand to the Arteza brand too.

A regular watercolour would be better than gauche as gauche is opaque. Regular watercolours being transparent would allow the shine to show through the pigment in the paint better.

Hi Alicia, Thx for the informative comparison. I have Perfect Pearls, but haven't really used them. When the mica first came out, Arteza couldn't really advise how to use in cardmaking. I'm so glad you and Mary are experimenting. Wonder what the results would be using alcohol instead of water? Would dry faster? Thx again for sharing. Pretty nail color too. Stay safe. 🌻

So worth the wait of the upload lol Those are really cool. I know nothing and never even heard of this product. Do you think you could emboss before painting with them to keep the lines? Either way, looks great.

Hi Alicia. So I have 12 Perfect Pearls and Gum Arabic so I'm going to give this a try with the Perfect Pearls. I have also used Dollar Tree eye shadows with Perfect Medium and VersaMark, because eye shadow is just mica powder after all. And I'm guessing it is probably the same as the Arteza mica powders as that too is cosmetic grade. Hmmmm. Heading to the craft room. Thanks for your tips and tricks.

Boo Peep if you do your research you will find eye shadow is basically mica and powder, so it is NOT a “lot more”.....and especially the pearlized shades has enough mica in it to use for these purposes....you can use it all like pan pastels, you can make ink and watercolor and you can color white and translucent polymer clay as well as add it gel and molding paste snd, ....obviously some processes and brands work better than others and even for art and jewelry making, ...a trip to the dollar store, for a set or two of eyeshadows, is not time,or money wasted. (I even make dye from dandelions , spinach, beets,bark and berries, it is all good) ...Why would you laugh at anyone Or anything that allows art and experimental learning, that is how all things get invented, by just trying. .... it was an awesome suggestion from J.G. Good on her for sharing it !

Now with the perfect pearls you spray it with water to set it.

Hey Alicia! I wonder what would happen if you mixed it with a little pump hairspray

Not sure about mixing the hairspray, but you can set the mica powders with hairspray by spraying your finished project.

Hello! Thank you for doing this, I was wondering if they could be used for a background. Kind of like the Nuvo Shimmer powders. Where you sprinkle some on the paper then spritz water on. Have you tried that?
@CrazyPaperChick
@CrazyPaperChick 4 жыл бұрын
I have not tried that. I suspect it would work if you have the Gum Arabic mixed in. Otherwise it would just wipe off once dried.

Yes another lady has made shimmer sprays with mica powder, gum Arabic and water in a mister bottle. I guess you just have to play around with proportions to get right, more water in a spray.
