I noticed my golden stopped growing after months of continuous growth. He went from growing about a foot a month even through the winter to declining. I pulled him out of the pot and he was wrapped around the terra cotta pot I had him in. I repotted him and he is doing much better and even putting out new growth 🥰

Suzanne here, i collect water jars and unusual ones, all shapes, clear glass of course i have many many pothos, but over a span of 40 plus years of growing this plant, i find they do much better simply growing in plain water, i have some in soil, but they simply do not do as well as the ones do in water. and YEs they can last a life time in plain water, and grow much better, than in soil, i have many hanging in soil, but i take cuttings often and am always making more and more, i love watching the roots grow, there is one rule with this kinda growing them, change the water 2 times a week and keep it clean, remove any dead items, and enjoy water growing

Whenever repotting I start strong, then start to think to myself "what have I gotten myself into" after it's all out on the table. It's always the most stressful part. My worst time was with my string of pearls.. it was only in a 2 inch container, and the roots weren't the reason for repotting but the pearls on top were all on top of each other with no sign of growth (like they had been propegated a tonne, but I was a noob at the time). I just started taking them out and they came out in one piece, but after the soil fell off I noticed it was a million separate 'strings' with hardly any roots. I did move them to a bigger container so all the 'strings' were in soil (most stressful and difficult repotting ever) and they almost died from shock but they have started vining again after their recovery and it warms my heart. I don't think I'll ever repot it again 😅

@Raiseawareness.2473 жыл бұрын
What’s a mosspole?
@agile828mn3 жыл бұрын
Excessively large pots invite root rot. Always pot up one size pot only. Planting multiple plants into the same pot can cause die-off, as one plant can choke the other. Moss poles require off-center planting which also invites root rot. This creates large areas of soil which roots do not occupy, and therefor will not dry the soil.
@tayr38363 жыл бұрын
@@agile828mn it’s been thriving all these months later! It didn’t seem to be several plants potted up. Just a huge full golden pothos that had probably been outside
@agile828mn3 жыл бұрын
@@tayr3836 This will certainly work more often than not, but is typically a technique you wouldnt give out as advice to beginning growers. There is a high enough chance of failure that it isnt wise to tout as a "life hack" for stylizing a pothos. When a nursery uses similar techniques, they can account for their failure rate by planting high volume. If a person has one plant, this technique may leave the person unhappy with your advice and having to buy a new plant. Cheers

Just a little tip. If you are trying to seperate dirt from fragile roots, sometimes water is your best friend. Not using any pressure, just let the hose run over the dirt and it will break away. you can also fill a bucket with water and gently swirled the roots around in it and the dirt will fall free.

A year has passed and I’ve kept it in water and the plant seems to be doing well. It’s very bright and green but grows pretty slowly although it’s root system is getting pretty crazy and very big but I’m wondering would it be very bad to transport it to soil or will that be too jarring to it’s system to suddenly be put in soil. I don’t want to kill the plant because I care for it and want to do my best to keep it alive. Any advice would be gladly appreciated thanks :)
