This is a great tool! I never knew of its existence! I am a beginner Knitter and I've only need one pair of socks for myself. I measured by trying my toe up socks to determine where to turn the heel. As I found out oh, I did not get a very accurate measurement because the sock was not laying flat. I have learned much about measuring the foot and the circumference right at the base of the biggest toe. So this ruler works with those type of measurements which I like! I found some nice wool and I am planning to knit a pair for my husband. I'm still a little leery about knitting socks; it is a whole different world from knitting scarves! But just like with anything else, practice, practice, practice! The more I make, the better I will get! My inspiration for knitting socks came for my dear friend Annette whom I considered the knitting queen of socks! She knitted me appear for my birthday every year and I treasure them. They fit better than any store-bought socks! The last pair of socks that she need it for me are tucked away in my drawer unused. She passed away from cancer a few years ago so those socks are my treasure, knowing that they were the last pair she ever knitted for me. I miss her. I am sure that wherever she is, she watches me knit and cheers me on. I will keep an eye out for your other demos on sock knitting! Demonstrations are so valuable! Thank you for opening my eyes to this awesome ruler!

Love my sock ruler! A little trick I learned is to use a permanent marker to mark my different lengths of socks. Then if you need to remove a mark, you can color over it with a dry erase marker and it will remove the permanent marker too. :)

I just noticed my Sock Ruler has "patent pending" too! I also use my sock ruler to measure mittens. They are, after all, hand socks.

I’ve had my sock ruler for a while now and love it. At first I hesitated buying one, thinking I could just stick a regular ruler in the sock…but the rounded shape of the sock ruler makes measuring SO much easier and more accurate. I knit almost always toe up and now know exactly where to start the heel. I prefer the Fleegle heel, which I think *may* start sooner on a toe-up sock than other kinds of heels?

My ruler also has “patent pending” on it! Bought it in Australia years ago. It is an absolutely invaluable tool. I couldn’t be without it now. Because I have lots of family members that I knit socks for, I have marked shoe sizes on mine because I know everyone’s shoe size. I’m thinking it might be a good idea to have a spare! 😁

I've been waiting for your shop to get up and running to order sock ruler etc. Maybe some time you can talk about "ripping out and placing circular needles back in". I put in a life line when realizing i had to rip down from toe & heel flap but it was difficult for me. Thanks!

I do have a question, I know she said in the video that she doesn't measure the foot of the person the sock is for but if I did want to measure, is it better to measure standing up or sitting down? How much should I remove for ease? I have just been winging it so far and it has been mostly working out but I would still like to know. Thanks!

Another great tutorial, thank you. I have had my sock ruler for a couple of years but wasn’t really sure how to use it properly. I also have the children’s size one. Do you have a children’s sock pattern ? I would like to make some socks for my grandchildren but I’m not sure how to get the correct sizes and how many stitches to cast on etc.

Hi! I’ve been looking for guidance when measuring toe up if your sole is knitted and your instep has a pattern. Do you measure how far up the ruler the foot comes or how far up the instep comes? There can be a big difference with some patterns! Thanks!
@CrazySockLady2 жыл бұрын
You want to measure the foot section where there isn’t a pattern.
@karenlindgandrup3 жыл бұрын
Isnt the shoe size a bit longer than the foot in inches? Also, no need for positive ease in length when there are negative ease in width?
@CrazySockLady3 жыл бұрын
I’ve never had any issues with fit when I knit you my by the shoe sizes in inches. It’s what I do for every sock I make. I do negative ease in circumference and not length. It’s all about finding what works for you to get the fit you like.

I think you said your marker was the one between 7 1/2” & 7 3/4”, so then add 1.75” for the medium sock pattern and that’s 9.375” which is a size 7.5?

So I looked up shoe size in inches and it says for size 9 shoes it’s 10 inches. So I should knit to 8 inches and start the toe?
@CrazySockLady3 жыл бұрын
You want to follow the pattern suggestions for when to start the toe. Some say 1.75” some say 2”. Depends on the size you’re knitting and the toe you’re doing.
