Lol bro theres a lot more to the situation and yes there's ways FSU and Clemson can leave easily . FSUs Board of Trustees scheduled a random meeting for today that wasn't originally scheduled, the ACC then also scheduled a meeting with the PAC 12, does that mean FSU is leaving, I have no idea but kinds odd both were scheduled out of thin air and Aug 15th is the deadline to announce if a team is leaving or staying in the ACC, There's basically 2 huge TV stations at play here, ESPN and Fox and ESPN has the ACC under media lockdown, I'll explain why that could help FSU leave the ACC without really worrying about the GOR, the reason ur seeing some say by Aug 15th is because any ACC school has until that day to announce that they're leaving the conference in order to be eligible to play in a different conference in 2024, if a school doesn't announce by that day then they are automatically contracted to remain in the conference thru 2024 and can't leave til 2025. FSU gets 42 mill per year from the ACC and Big 10 schools pay out 80 mill and SEC schools pay out 72 mill, even if FSU paid ACC/ESPN 30 mill per year for 10 years and if they went to the Big 10 then they're still making 50 mill a year, that's 8 mill per year more than if they stayed in the ACC, here's how they could possibly get out without worrying about the GOR and only pay 120 mill ACC exit fee, ESPN even owns the ACC Network, guess who also has the SEC locked under media contract, yep ESPN. If ESPN thinks they could draw bigger money by FSU and Clemson being in the SEC then they may allow it to happen without penalizing the ACC and may even allow the ACCs GOR to stay the same because they got such a good deal to begin with and then the other 12 remaining schools would get more money instead of splitting it 14 ways so everyone wins, the ACC still gets their full GOR from ESPN and ESPN makes more money because of a lot better matchups with FSU and Clemson being in the SEC. ur hearing the 300 mill buyout is if FSU goes to the Big 10 because that includes FOX and the GOR. Word is though that FSU and Clemson are leaving for the Big 10 so they may have agreed behind close doors on the 300 mill buyout but it could also be FSU trying to get SECs attention but either way I think there's some fire this time with the smoke because of the random scheduled Board of Trustees meeting and then the random scheduled ACC meeting with the PAC 12, if the ACC already knows that FSU and Clemson and leaving then they're trying to form a conference together with the PAC 12 to try and stay a little relevant but honestly it's not gonna matter if they combine conferences because all the elite teams will be gone and they still wouldn't be able to compete with the Big 10 or SEC
@Lsmomo55 Жыл бұрын
Lou, found this in an article but i dont know if we can take it as face value....FSU's Board acted on the bad-faith representations of the ACC. Swofford and Jordan knew the revenue projections were unrealistic yet assured the Board profits from a conference network would put the Seminoles on par with their SEC peers. That's what lawyers call "intentional fraud." Swofford, in his capacity as the commissioner of the ACC, intentionally misrepresented revenue projections with the intent to deceive the Board of Trustees into signing the grant of rights.

Much of this makes sense but a few things you are off on. This is not suddenly happening since the CU news. It has been around for a few years. It was actually bigger news last year but I guess you didn't hear about it. The GOR is rock solid apparently. They either pay the exit fee and the GOR release or they find another way. Actual informed estimates put that combined number at probably over 500 million but there could be some negotiation in that number. It doesn't matter though. It will still be too much. The other 2 options are to challenge the GOR in court (who knows on what grounds) or, and maybe more likely, make moves to have the conference dissolved. There apparently is wording in the contract for this scenario. They would need 8 teams to leave and the ACC would dissolve. Finding 8 teams willing to leave and pay the 120 million exit fee is easy. They have the teams to do it. The problem then becomes having a spot for those 8 teams to land. You can likely find 4 teams spots in the SEC or Big10. The other 4 become a problem. The Big 12 would likely be interested in a few (especially the schools with good bball programs) but that number being 4 is unlikely. This info doesn't come from a random twitter account or a youtube page putting out clickbait, it comes from FSU's and Clemson's ADs. You can actually watch the press conferences if you feel so inclined and want to know where it really stems from. I trust the AD's more than any youtuber (not meaning you, the others pushing this scenario). With that being said, it is going to happen. The timeline of next year just makes no sense unless the people in power are holdong some things back.

The 300million is basicly buying out the gor contract. 30million per year is in line with how much they recieve each year anyways. The deal with big10 is valued at over 100million per year meaning the school would keep 70million per year vs only getting 32 from the acc. The math adds up.
@markswan2582 Жыл бұрын
There is no buying out of the GOR. The ACC owns FSU’s media rights until 2034.
@mattlippiatt1273 Жыл бұрын
@markswan2582 read the grant of rights again... it is specific to the acc espn contract. It is basicly says that the school is responsible for keeping their end of the espn contract. The grant of rights is not giving up a team's ability to get out. Or giving up their ability to get money from another conference tv deal. It is specifically that they will pay the conference for the money the conference might loose if espn renegotes the contract lower. It is not giving away all media rights...it is specific to the contract espn has with the acc.
@mattlippiatt1273 Жыл бұрын
The grant of rights can be challenged in court by existing acc bylaws which states exit fee to leave conference. Along with that if a school finds anyway that espn or the acc misrepresented it's contract on false valuations like money from acc network etc. Then the gor which is specific to that espn agreement is void... all a school has to show is that the acc or espn or both misrepresented the income that would be generated. The gor can be broken by a good faith violation on part of espn and or the acc.
@markswan2582 Жыл бұрын
@@mattlippiatt1273 per the contract, they surrender media rights to all home games for the duration of the agreement, (2036, not 2034 as erroneously stated by me previously). So, they could get revenue from other conferences for away games. Don’t know what the practicality of that is, but I would think unlikely since it hasn’t been attempted as of yet.

So Lou, let's go back a couple months ago when seven ACC schools publicly acknowledged that they were discussing how they might be able to circumvent the ACC grant of rights and depart the conference. And then, if you'll recall, these same schools met with the commissioner and after the meeting the departure talk died down and everyone was making nice. In fact, FSU's athletic director came out and made a statement that they were very happy to be a member of the ACC. This was just a couple months ago. Then the commissioner comes out and says that the conference is looking at doing something for their top revenue schools. So you heard nothing else from Clemson, FSU, UNC, Miami and others. And since then you have heard not one word from any of these schools about leaving the conference---at least not from anyone who actually makes decisions at these schools. All of this is coming from trolls who have no information about any of this. So, as a fan,until I see some official from one of these august institutions say that our board of trustees has devoted to depart the ACC, I'm just not going to believe it. One of the things you mentioned ----which makes perfect sense----is that all this talk was triggered as soon as Colorado announced that they were leaving the PAC 12. Funny how that works. None of what I said means that all these schools are satisfied with what they're getting paid. They're not. But it seems that they're pretty much stuck. ESPN certainly isn't going to re-visit the ACC's deal. Hell, they're broke. They've fired half their employees to save money. They are losing subscribers by the thousands. So, at the end of the day I'd be surprised if anyone leaves the ACC. Not saying it can't happen. Sure it could, but I'd be surprised

ESPN had 4 billion in revenue in 2022. Disney’s broke and squeezed every ounce of profit out of the 4 billion to cover its losses in movie productions and theme park losses, even then Disney wanted more and made ESPN downsize their workforce to give Disney a few more million to squander. While ESPN isn’t “broke”, Disney is trying their best to destroy the network by mismanagement. There are reports that Disney is looking to either sell off a partial piece of ESPN or sell it outright in its entirety. Please let that happen sooner rather than later.

Well Florida State begs to differ. I don't know what they're trying to do legally, but they're going out swinging
@johngarnergarner6724 Жыл бұрын
That's funny. Only a day after I said no one is leaving the ACC, FSU says they want to leave. And since they've made that statement, they've started the ball rolling. I can say this: I don't know how strong their contractual obligations are, but I'd note that typically in these cases the parties involved tend to negotiate a settlement acceptable to all. So if FSU says to the ACC, "we're leaving", then the question becomes how much will this cost? And then Clemson and UNC will say, okay, we want the same deal! So, all parties depart with their egos intact. The ACC has a full coffer with settlement money, and, atthe end of the day, they raid the American for South Florida, East Carolina and Temple.

I heard Clemson didn’t want to come to the SEC and compete as tigers. The SEC already has three. Clemson would make 4. In the B1G, they feel they can control those nittany lions and wildcats.

I guess I don't get why FSU wouldn't just go to the SEC, if they could leave the ACC. We all know the end game is 20 team conferences.
@mattlippiatt1273 Жыл бұрын
From what I hear that is where espn comes to play...clemson and fsu possibly miami and nc are the only real teams that give the acc contract value. Espn needs clem and fsu to stay In the acc otherwise the remaining acc contract is junk. Where the big 10 has advantages is they have fox, NBC, and CBS now. From media pov and big 10. If your able to get Into the south starting with fsu and clem take a couple more schools out west get to 20 pick up 4 more southern schools like NC, gt, va,Miami and your at 24. You end espn monopoly and bias towards the sec.
@mattlippiatt1273 Жыл бұрын
Big 10 wants 4 to 5 teams out west and prob 5 to 6 in South and reach 24 team with 4 divisions of 6 teams if sec and let's say big 12 follow that model each Division winner gets playoff spot for 12 team playoff

This current deal between FSU and the ACC was signed by the AD Stan Wilcox 2013-2018. Ole Stan was responsible for the past demise of FSU athletics. the guy was grossly incompetent, made derogatory comment about FSU and a known outright racist (he was fired abruptly). I personally think FSU has a legal case to be made that Stan Wilcox was had a vendetta during this time.

First off most of the people running their mouths about leaving on August 15th clearly don't know what they are talking about and about FSU bragging about the ACC deal not a single one of those administration people who bragged are still at FSU so you can drop that point and comment!!! Every school receives money from the TV deals which is why every SEC and BIG 10 School has significantly more money to spend on facilities and other recruiting tool's bro so stop it

It’s coming up now because after the evaluation of the tv deal and grant of rights the new AD Mike Alford at fsu said that fsu will be extremely behind teams of the SEC and BIG10 once their tv deal is done. I respect fsu for this because they love football and want to stay relevant. Teams of the pac-12 and ACC will eventually be left in the dust because of the amount of money those schools make compared to BIG10 & Sec schools. As big as the brand is, Vanderbilt shouldn’t be making 30 more million a year than fsu. And vandy would be a lot more relevant in college football if their academic standards weren’t so high.That’s the whole point. It’s all about staying relevant.
@jansonroberts2616 Жыл бұрын
But Alford has since come out and said that FSU was proud to be a member of the ACC and happy to be there. Which is it? Flip Flops are for the beach.

First off I'd like to say I love your channel and the work you do, but you're way off base on this particular topic lol. August 15th is the deadline for FSU to announce if they were leaving the ACC or not, why they would have to announce by then I don't know but that's what the August 15th date is really all about. As far as the 300mil buyout and whether there's any truth to that I don't know, but I do know that by 2030 it's estimated that with the additions of USC and UCLA each big10 school will get an annual payout around 100mil, SEC with Oklahoma and Texas 90mil, the ACC if it remains intact 52mil. So in other words if the rumors about a 300mil are true, then even with FSU paying the ACC 30mil a year for 10yrs they would still make around 20mil more a year by 2030 if they did indeed break the away and join the big10. They would have to give away 30mil of their 100mil until *2036* the year the GOR deal is up. One last thing relating to your doormat comment, though it would be more difficult to win the Big10 or the SEC FSU at peak efficiency can be as good as ANYBODY with the right coach. FSU for example is 37-6-1 against the big10 all-time, and 8-2 against LSU all-time. Has FSU been in the dumps the last 6yrs? Absolutely, but let's not act like they couldn't just as easily become the next Georgia or Alabama with the same resources and a really good coach lol
@jansonroberts2616 Жыл бұрын
I remember Texas and Oklahoma asked for a payment type exit when they made their announcement of leaving and where laughed out of the room by the Big12 schools. FSU or Clemson or whoever is wanting to leave doesn’t get to decide how they pay. OU and Texas was told if they wanted to make payments, fine but you’re here until the final payment is made. We’ll have to see how that works for those wanting to leave in the ACC.
@jamesmiller6829 Жыл бұрын
@jansonroberts2616 obviously they don't get to decide 🙄 that's why there's rumors that they might just try and come to a deal with the ACC about the Grant of rights, or just take the conference to court. And if 8 or more conference members decide to vote on leaving at the same time then the conference would dissolve and the Grant of rights would hold no power

It about the money. Simple answer. With this new big 2 forming. You are either in or out in the future. FSU is relevant in non revenue sports( women’s soccer, women’s softball, baseball, track etc.) the conference revenue, would allow us to keep coaches and continue to build our nonrevenue sports along with football. Any SEC or Big Ten school at this point could just come in and out bid your softball coach, soccer coach, baseball coach, etc. FSU isn’t one of the older universities that has lots of generational wealth. There is a couple rich boosters, but it’s a relatively poor university compared to others, and that’s coming from an FSU fan. I don’t know when it will happen, but what I’ve heard from the Moore’s which if you don’t know them one of the top boosters at fsu and my grandpas best friend. Says they will be out of the ACC no later than 2027’ for what it’s worth. Basically fans/boosters at fsu are seeing they need all their money going to nil, and you need the TV revenue for coach retention. Tv money and booster donations will help fund facilities. FSU doesn’t want to fall behind because they don’t have enough resources to keep up. I don’t think there going to leave right now I just think they are making public threats to get more teams willing to panic and essentially vote to dissolve the GOR. Again no one gets to see the contract but this is just from reliable FSU boosters and FSU reporters I trust. I’m not claming there in a new conference by 24’ but by 27’ they are as good as fine unless something drastically changes with the ACC.
