Yeah but a $500 printer compared to an $1,100 printer is a little bit not fair. Plus I don't see how somebody could give more points for 3D printing Parts over injected molded parts. That's just insanity

I originally bout and ender type printer from Amazon about 5 years ago. After a couple misprints, a clogged nozzle and the headache of having to level the bed with springs, I returned it and got a Prusa MK3S kit. Assembling the printer wasn't difficult and was a really fun project in itself. The printer is amazing. Hassle free printing at it's best, just hit start. Prusa is a prime example that you get what you pay for.

Fair comparison. Other consideration today is option to upgrade the S1 Pro with the Sonic Pad. Likely a shift in terms of usability and speed. You get Klipper firmware, a host of other great added features, and by all accounts run 2-3 times faster without loss of quality for an upgrade price (~$150) that still keeps the S1 Pro way less than the Prusa.

Wow wow wow!!! This comparison video blows me away!! In design engineering we sometimes resort to using a weighted concept selection matrix (or weighted comparison matrix) to provide a form of quantitative insight when trying to compare among various design/concept options. This is exactly what you have done and done extremely well! I completely agree with your selected criteria, the weight you assigned to each criteria, the scoring you assigned AND the justifications for assigning such scores! Excellent and thank you!

No, she didn't. She made a cardinal mistake. Prusa self-assembled version is more than 2x the price of ender s1 pro. Meanwhile she scored 15 vs 10. This ruins the whole comparison. You can get 2 ender s1 pro for the price of 1 prusa.

I think is a dilemma of a lot of us to choose our next printer Although price and assembly is an upfront cost/work you need to do and all the others will be our daily routine, if you remove them out of 100 the score will 66.25 for Ender and 85 for Prusa that make the difference even bigger

Having both printers, I'd say that the scoring was definitely generous with the Ender. Yes it works well initially, but after using it for a while, it's starting to show the usual wear and tear that makes you spend more and more time fussing with it keep the print quality high

@GregBeatty
@GregBeatty 2 жыл бұрын
@@thebrenskie (good) Linear rails go a long way to removing wear/tear/adjustment headaches on the ender. The problem is that good linear rails are very expensive. The cheap rails on amazon vary anywhere from acceptable to garbage, but you really have no idea what you're getting until they show up at your door. I converted my old ender 3 pro with amazon (generic) linear rails. A coworker also has an ender 3 that he converted over to linear **rods**. Both conversions are better than the stock roller wheels, but I'm starting to have some problems with some of my rails after about 3 months (I print for hobby only, not 24/7). Two of my rails are getting noisy, and one of them has quite a bit of lateral movement (which rails shouldn't have at all). My coworker prints quite a bit more than me and his rod conversion is basically maintenance free other than putting a little bit of silicon grease on the rods every month or two.
@thebrenskie
@thebrenskie 2 жыл бұрын
@@GregBeatty I understand completely. I’m based in South Africa and try finding a good pair of rails here.. I have done full rail conversion of a old TRONXY X5S and 1000 times more reliable. I do think creality should have just done the rails from the start… or at least offer a reliable rail upgrade kit to try and be as reliable as a PRUSA.

Honestly, since the S1 and S1 Pro have stepped up the "set it up and forget it" game for Enders, I would say also that the print quality difference would be negligible with the MKS3+. The only difference she pointed out in this review (the bulging corners) is the lack of linear advance (or pressure advance in Klipper) setup for the Ender, which you can easily do yourself and then not have to worry about again. Is that worth a few hundred dollars for you? Maybe, maybe not.

I love your direct to the point videos. You don't waste time re-hashing low value details and get right to the nitty gritty. I was very excited to get a Prusa Mini+ last year. I even ordered it at the beginning of November instead of waiting for black friday since the delivery was stated as beginning of December. I thought I could tinker with it during Christmas break. Well, Prusa failed me and kept pushing out the shipping date so I cancelled and looked for another option. I purchased a Kingroon KP3S and so far love it. It cost less than half of the Prusa and comes with linear rails and direct drive. I haven't pushed it with TPU, PETG and ABS which is why I wanted the Prusa, but so far it has worked great. Is the Kingroon kind of a black horse? I love my Ender 3 but recognize its limitations. From what I had read, the Prusa was the logical upgrade path. I didn't come across the Kingroon until I was looking for an alternative.

Another great review. This is what I would call a high quality engineering evaluation. Keep up the great work. Another consideration is repair/replacement parts. I have an S1 but it has been down for 2 months due a failed print that encased the heater block in solid plastic. It was good while it lasted (1 spool) but I can't get a replacement extruder. Don't trust the auto bed leveler... check it manually when you set it up. I ordered one a month ago but the order was cancelled after 3 weeks with no explanation... or refund yet. The extruder comes and goes on the web site as a spare part. It seems as though they're having trouble with inventory. Be aware that the S1 is new so parts will be VERY hard to get... or non-existent. Also, the heater cartridge doesn't appear to be the same as the standard Ender 3 so who knows when "sub-components" will be available. For now, the only option I can find (which is inaccessible) is an entire extruder assembly at over $100.00. Yikes! I bought an LK5 Pro to replace it while I wait and.....now I'm in no hurry to get the S1 fixed. The LK5 Pro is a fantastic printer at a bargain (IMO). Aurora did a review on it too recently.

Good use of the term watt hour. For anyone interested, a physicist would use the term joule for a unit of energy, and would express the flow of energy or work as joules per second. So what is a watt? Well electrical engineers came along and decided that an energy flow of one joule per second is equal to one watt. Then, in kind of a convoluted fashion, defined a new unit of energy watt hour as how much energy would flow in one hour at a rate of one watt. Thus a watt hour is simply 3600 joule. Great video --- thank you.

I got a black Friday deal on the Ender-3 S1Pro: $270.00. I haven't unboxed it yet. I have a 11 year old XYZ noob printer. It's been a while since I printed anything. I'm hopeful that I made a good choice.

I’ve only been “around the community” for 2 years. Given that, Ive seen an insane amount of content and people dedicated to the Prusa and often I’ve seen why. The quality that the Prusa puts out is undeniably outstanding. That said, for the price, for the “standard bedslinger”, I don’t think I’ll ever own one. The printer I’m building right now is a direct result of your review, Sovol SV05. I got it, because it’s “Creality Roots” and I got an amazing price. Given the competition in this area and the pricing, I’m surprised people still pay Prusa’s prices. When I shell out, close to / over a thousand, it’s core xy time and most likely Voron. I would think, at some point, Prusa would have to step up their game, screen wise, etc….etc…etc…. Yet? People are still buying them by the truckload so? I can’t question it. Yet, I do.

The reason why I would buy one is primarily because of their consistently good part printing. Too many other printers, including some $2000 ones have issues. I had a $150 printer that needed to constantly be tweaked to work properly. One part would look great and a then a duplicate part would look horrible.

This was an awesome review on the two. I’m getting into 3d printing as something to do as a hobby. I’m a full time welder and work with cad and build prints but never got into the design side. I’m looking at the s1 pro as my first printer for the simple fact that I can 3d print and also for just a little extra install a laser and also do some engraving. So this is actually a 3d printer and a cnc engraver all in one.

Their add-on laser is pathetic. Only 1.6 watts! You can't engrave much with such a weak laser.

I see there is new Ender 3 S1 plus available. Same temperatures as S1, user interface as S1 Pro, but print size 300x300x300. Released about month ago. Wonder is S1 Pro will be launched as Plus model with 300x300x300 print area? Maybe "Ender S1 Max" is to be next release, but when?

I like all the upgrades in the S1 Pro. I've seen mixed reviews for Ender 3 linear rail upgrades, most people don't seem to think it's that useful. It would be a nice thing to have though I guess. Replacing rollers is a pain. Creality's awful firmware, support, and documentation is a real problem though. For my Ender 3 I eventually switched to Klipper firmware and it's been a big improvement.

I assembled my MK3S+ a few weeks ago. I'm continually shocked at how good it is. At first glance with 3D printed parts and a higher cost, it looks like kind of a joke but Prusa has done such an amazing job turning this design. It has done an amazing job with everything I have thrown at it.

How long did it take you to assemble? Was it hard to assemble or straight forward?
@flantc
@flantc 2 жыл бұрын
@@jamesamous5854 It’s a solid 8 hours. It wouldn’t say it’s easy but it is worth it if you like to understand how things work. I think a good indicator of whether you should build or buy assembled is what you plan to do with it. If you are someone that wants to use it to make mechanical things, your own enclosures, gears, anything functional, then you should build it. If you are looking to use it for artistic things, models, sculptures, stamps, etc, then maybe buy it. That’s just my impression from people I know and is not a universal do/don’t build rule.
