I alternated between Cream and Gatecrasher nearly every Saturday night from 1999 until around 2005. Every generation says their time was the greatest, but I truly know the late nineties to around 2010 was the best time ever to be a clubber.

The '90s/early 00s was a time of innocence, relatively peaceful in terms of global wars, strong economies, lots of disposable cash, business was booming, there was a musical revolution in youth culture fuelled by a huge welfare state and well-funded arts councils mixed with the Thatcherite business acumen of the rave era, pre 9/11 pre-social media, Britain was cool again. Very different world now; looking back, the joy was in the nativity, a freedom that was taken from us all when the information age began - and we all grew up.
