When I was a boy about 12 yrs old around 69/70 my dad picked up a young hippy on a dirt track, he had no money and nowhere to stay so dad brought him home, fed him and gave him a bed. My dad was a fisherman and took the young fella to work for a few days so he could earn some money to move on. He had a small portable turntable and a handful of records, one of them the Cream album this track is from, he told me to play them and look after them until he came back to get them. I must of played the Cream album a 100 times. He came back one day when my parents were out, thanked me for looking after his records and told me to keep listening to good music. Whenever I hear this song I think of him and wonder how his life panned out.

Jack was everything in this song, the driving bass as well as the powerful medieval yet soulful voice. But it’s easy to go making Gingers Thumping drums or Claptons mesmerising psychedelic guitar were only bit part players. A clear standout for me is Gingers massive crashing drum crescendo, it underpins and draws attention even to the lyrics and mood of the song. It’s rare to hear that in drums, few can do it, yet combine beautifully with the bass and in its chaos still provide a precise platform for Eric’s finger picking artistry. It all works wonderfully to create a heavy rock masterpiece of a song.

Ginger my pirate on the drums…. Absolutely had me hooked at the age of 4, him and Keith were gods! I wanted to play the drums desperately but my father was old school European told me “you love Tull play the flute, it’s not lady like to play the drums…” I’m 57 now and I still tap out on the steering wheel, countertop, etc…

@Ellen Adams The powers that be don't want thought provoking or melodic content in music.. The effects of which lead to critical thinking.. Every time I hear this epic art piece it takes the mind on a journey and it's never the same place.. A monumental piece of art painted on the tapestry of time.. There's still great music being played and recorded.. The likes of it are reduced to independent labels and not given the time on the mainstain radios or any format of mass exposure to the general public..

I am 68. It was released in 1968 double album Wheels of Fire. I was 14. Back in the day albums were just starting. A friend had bought it. Back then we were starving for good music. (Today just a click away.) We were getting fed up with pop music on the radio. THEN we heard something like this. I always share the experience of hearing this and other tracks back then. All the music was amazing. (and still is with the AI lyrics and computer generated music of today) Who is here in 2023?

I bought all of Cream’s early albums & put them on casssette. It was 1969 & I was 19. I bought a CHERRY 1967 Pontiac GTO, installed high end speakers, a 100w amplifier, and I cruised while BLASTING Cream. I had SO many girls wanting to cruise in my car. It was, without a doubt, the BEST times of my life. At one point I was seeing 4 different high school senior girls, at three different schools, AT THE SAME TIME!! It was GLORIOUS!! I know the car helped but Cream’s fabulous music did also.
