Thanks for sharing this, Austin! Very useful. A good habit to get into is (as you mentioned) to scale and rotate your objects to where you want them, and then freeze your Scale and Rotations (Ctrl+A) for the objects. Physics simulations require real-world dimensions to look "right". Freezing transforms regularly can save a lot of headaches down the road (no pun intended). I look forward to any other videos like this - rigid-body constraints in Blender are a dark art (compared to what I've used in other packages)

This is awesome tutorial! I want to make cool animation with car but I failed with wheels. They are wiggling like there 11:40 but then you somehow fixed it at 12:37 and I do not know how because everything seems to be same with yours and origins are same with wheel's collisions. (Already fixed)
@danilchirva39932 жыл бұрын
Eeeeeeeee I fixed! Solution was very unexpected for me. Back wheel's suspension constraints (generic spring) have to be connected to the body collision first, then to the wheel's collisions, but I had the opposite. You mentioned about something similar, so it gave me this idea. Must to thanks you for this tutorial again!

@akastudioss2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Really appreciate it, I've been trying to figure out a good way for the car to follow a curved path, I want it to be more of a guiding system, like you said following an empty along a path but I think more of a pully system, like the car being towed along the path is the simpler option.

One of the best guides I've seen. I have a question - is there a way to control the steering motor of the car by setting an angle and not by setting a speed. Because setting speed always takes the steering quite quickly to the end of the stroke and it is very difficult to center the wheels, and drive in a straight line. Thank you
@akastudioss Жыл бұрын
Thank you, This is a great question, I've tried to set drivers to the angle limit of the constraint but the scene needs to be reset to the beginning of the timeline for the constraint to be reset, so in short I don't think so or ableist I never found a way. This steering method is just the best option I've found so far.

@@akastudioss Okay here we are: I was experimenting with this tonight, and managed to make something sort of like what you showed toward the end: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHPLZXeDjLCLh68 (idk if youtube will flag this as spam and hide it because of the link...) But that's basically a test of using local sockets to share data between programs (in this case one being a controller and the other being blender) so that I can use WASD to drive the car during the simulation. I think it's really sick and I wish I came across this before I finished my major work for an animation class (where I manually animated the cars using my rigging addon stuff- though tbf I think it'd be pretty hard to accurately race cars around a street to the level they do in my animation). SuperDope Bro!! Friendly tip: Add Rig/rigging to your title and tags. This way more people wil find your videos. I found it during office hours. When I came home it took me 30 min. to find this video again. I also have a request. Is it possible to make the car follow a curve/spline and add drift controls? This would make this a superb car setup. The Rig-A-Car addon is really awesome, but to make a car jump you have to use some tricks.

Thanks for tip! Sorry it was a hassle to find, Appreciate you take the time to find it again though. As for the car following a curve I am currently working on that for the add-on but it’s been difficult to find a solution with the way the rig is set up. But I’m working on it.
@eztutor8232 жыл бұрын
@@akastudioss Thanx man! I think because it's hard to combine Physics/simulation with spline animation. For all Car animation plugins I've seen from other 3D applications it's rather one or the other. I'n general I prefer the spline animated approach sinds this gives me better controls for the overall animation (specifically drifts). Hope you finish the plugin soon. Will it be free or purchase? I'll keep tuning in every once in a while!

Appreciate it! and you're right about how hard it is to combine physics with spline animation. I am planning to sell it, but I'd like to have some people test it out first, so if you're familiar with blender and want to test it out, maybe we can set that up.

Wonderful tutorial, thanks, helped me a lot finalizing my rig! I have one question though - how did you achieve the "standstill"? I always get sliding movement and slight wheel rotation when just standstill (even though the ground is perfectly flat). I tried increasing the Iterations and friction, to no avail. Glad for any sugesstion! Amazing monster truck rig by the way, so satisfying to watch, love it!
@akastudioss Жыл бұрын
Thats a great question, a trick that worked for me is having motor constraint's Max Impulse set to anything above 0. The higher the number, the less the wheel will rotate, it acts kind of like a brake function. You could also increase the object friction to reduce sliding movement.
@janhrodek7206 Жыл бұрын
@@akastudioss Hi, the problem was in the weight of the Body itself (set to 200 kg), when restored to 1kg the model stays nicely put. With your monster truck rig you use real weight measurements? Asking just out of curiosity, since it seems to me higher values cause bugs. Thank you for your swift reply by the way! ;)
