Create a Multi-Selection Drillthrough "Button" in Power BI

Hi, thank you for sharing. I did exactly what you have shown in the multi select drill through button, but the single card doesn't show the drillthrough when I right click it. Is there any trick I might be missing? Thank you!

Is the same measure that is on the card also used in the drill through well on the other page? Otherwise I'd need to take a look at the workbook to know what is going wrong

Never mind i figured it out, we need to go and add the multi select drill through measure in the drill through fields of the detail page.

Hi Reid, it's really amazing and works perfectly! I have a question and hope you can help. I was trying to select multiple datapoints from different visuals and drill through. However, PBI removed my selection on the first visual when I tried to select the second visual (I held down 'Ctrl' key but it didn't work). Do you have any clues? Appreciate your help :)

Hi there! Unfortunately the only way I'm aware of multi-selecting between visuals is using control. I just tested this between a bar chart and matrix table and it was working for me however. So I'm not sure of the problem. app.screencast.com/AGDaa488DF5aM

when i click on results in a table, I am able to ctrl click to multi select and i do see the card change the text to right click etc but when i right click on it, no drill through option. i do have drillthrough on the next page and can do individual. not sure what i could be missing.

@@GaiusGW for a single row the regular drillthrough will be the best way to navigate! With the multi-select button servicing the multi-row scenario. :)

@@HavensConsulting yeah but see my original post where multi-select does not work. I was just saying that I can do it individually so you were aware that I do have a drill through on and working on an individual road basis.

Hmm, It's still working in my file. It should work in the PBIX you can download related to this video as well. Perhaps try the implementation again?

@@HavensConsulting What was missing was the instruction to put the measure of the card in the drill-through page as a drill input! That was NOT an obvious thing

Ah you're right that wasn't covered since that would be placing the same measure in the single value card, in the drillthrough well on the other page. Glad you got it figured out though!

Hello! I tried to replicate the same process and could get a functionality of color and text changes in the card visual, but I do not see any action for a card visual? How do I do make it work on single click which takes me to drill through page? I could make this with a button (enable/disable on selection) - but only with single data point. Appreciate your effort and request you for help.

Reid, on 'Drillthrough Page' you have a slicer for brand names. If the slicer has filters applied, then the result of drilling through might be confusing because of these extra filters.

If you're wanting to accept the input of other filters on the page, but not the table. Just make sure any slicers/filters used have the same column in the drillthrough well on the other page. This way that drillthrough button will pass those through. It's the equivalent of "all" since the table isn't providing any additional filters anyways. If I understood the question correctly

There is not, that's why this alternative solution was built to provide functionality not available in the default matrix. 😊

@@HavensConsulting ok thank you. Actually one of my client requirement is he doesn't want to right click and click on drill through. From a decomposition tree i need drill through by direct click on one of the category. I provided an alternate by using a button for drill through.

You can just create a single click button, which changes the destination of the drillthrough based on the filter you select

@@felixgrunberg9843 true! But they wanted to specifically click a "row" on the table to drill through. So URL was my solution for this :)

I spent 3 days to figure out why my visual title (created with a measure) does not change according to change on the visual by filtering it. Now You have confirmed that it jus doesn't work in Power Bi, thank You. This is ridiculous.
