Image>Adjustments>Invert actually inverts the colors. What you want is Select>Inverse to inverse the area that gets selected.

No disrespect to dansky but this couldve been done in 15min lol. (Quick warp tool, or puppet ward for precision with some colour adjustments and maybe some clipping masks) but hey! who cares what i think lol. i dont have 100k subscribers

Totally agree with you. But I think Dansky take careful with all details of the tutorial, not just for the experients but the beginners too.
