You could also rotate the controller, basically same as rotating the cam around the empty except you dont need to those steps of adding and parenting

that is true that's a good one that i like to use when i want to keep my lighting setup static, and when the background is kind of an "infinite plane"

I have always used an empty, parent camera to empty, blah, blah, blah. The addon makes it so much easier. I really need to take a closer look at the addons that ship with Blender.

the key interprolation should be linear by default in the add-on. Is this possible?

I mean would need to contact the developer I guess and ask him to make it like so, unless it respects the "default" key interpolation in the settings, i'd be worth a shot.
