Hi Stephen, these tutorials are very helpful. I gather from lesson 3 that... when I'm writing dialogue in fiction, I need a soft return between different speaking characters. That way it comes out looking like it should. Keep up the good work. Excellent and informative. :)

Hi, I have a questions. How do you make "First Line" Indents? You know how when you read a book, there's always a space when you read a new paragraph? How do you make does on Sigil? It's driving me crazy how my ebooks don't have that.

To do this with one paragraph of text, you add a style property to the individual-paragraph tag. Like this, . To have this style applied, to every paragraph, you will add to your documents CSS style sheet, like, this, p {text-indent:10px;} . You can adjust the 10px to be whatever you want.

i just downloaded sigil and I do not see a BOOK mode and HTML mode in the tool bar. all the text editor is HTML mode only.

Sigil have removed Book mode with their more recent updates to the application. I covered it in this video, kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaemdnlphdKXoqs

So in Word I changed all my white lines after each paragraph (^p^p in the search and replace screen) to a single ^p. The manual line breaks by shift+enter (in search and replace screen you get a ^l) to start a next line of dialogue. It works okay in Word. But if I copy & past the Word text in Sigil, both my hard returns (^p) as my manual line breaks (^l) change to the same paragraph signs ( and ). So now what? Cutting all the 's out of the dialogue by hand in Sigil?

nstikker in Word, if you have typed some text and then hit the Enter key on your keyboard, you create a new paragraph, then continue typing the next paragraph and repeat; If this is your technique, it should paste into Sigil correctly, as a paragraph.

Noor I suggest creating a new file directly in Sigil. Menu: File / New, then click Save to assign a unique name. Then you have a new, empty ePub and can begin typing content or copy/paste if you have some content in a text file.

You are using bookview in Sigil. Sadly this fundamentally useful feature has now been removed from Sigil, rendering Sigil useless for the average user. On the Sigil forums a very elitist view has prevailed that bookview is not necessary to edit books. The Sigil devs are all adept in HTML of course, so they do not need bookview. To them this means nobody needs bookview. It is totally absurd and mindbogglingly stupid.
