We will try to explain a method of rejuvenation and obtaining clean seeds in potatoes, which is unknown in our country.
If you constantly leave tubers from your own potato as seeds, the seeds will degenerate. In particular, viral diseases are transmitted to future generations, potato tubers begin to shrink, and they lose their seeds.
For this reason, with this method called knuckle culture, seeds are obtained again, both seeds are rejuvenated and diseases are prevented.
In this method, which can also be called regenerating potatoes from the leaves, it aims to obtain seeds from the nodes by using the tuber forming mechanism, while the stem of the potato remains under the soil. Of course, you also have the chance to eat these seeds, but they may be a little small. Of course, with good care, it is possible to obtain large tubers. Let's not forget that giving a lot of nitrogen to the potato and giving a lot of potassium along with it may encourage the formation of bigger tubers, but you will get a tuber loaded with nitrate and nitrite, which is questionable in terms of health. Therefore, avoid using too much fertilizer in potatoes
different methods are used to get rid of viruses in potatoes, they only provide surface sterilization, whereas viruses are carried by potato juice. So if you have an infected potato, whatever you do, when you plant it back in the ground, the viruses will spread.
The viruses are predominantly in the potato tuber and are absent or absent in the upper leaves. This is what causes us to increase the chances of success in our practice.
For this process, it is important to choose the period when the potatoes bloom. First you need to determine the branches that you will cut. These are potatoes obtained from normal potatoes, others are smaller, but since the seed is renewed, the potatoes to be obtained from now on will be larger and most importantly, they will not carry diseases.
In fact, it always makes the most sense to produce seeds one year later this way… The risk of disease transmission can be minimized.
