Hi. I love your videos. They are packed with great advice and insight into interior design and creativity. I did want to say one thing regarding your statement about avoiding schools who don't require a portfolio. I am from Canada, and here only the highest schools may require a portfolio. From my own experience, and that shared by others here, Canadian schools are generally more inclusive.. That is, while you may need a certain level of grades, nearly anyone can be admitted into a program of their choosing. I've personally studied in multiple fields, including my current of Interior Design at St. Clair College in Windsor, and I find my professors to be incredible. They bring a lot of experience and knowledge to their courses. I've learned so much, and have begun developing a high level of skills. And again, because of my multiple diplomas and certifications in engineering, I am a good judge of whether they are quality professors; I've had some in the other fields which weren't great at all ; in those courses, I had learnt more from textbooks. I am very happy with the quality of the Interior Design program.

Hi, I became interested in interior, but I've never studied art or design before. To be an interior architect (or to study interior architecture), is it necessary to have great talent in art? (sorry if my english is weird)
@dantierandbalogh3 жыл бұрын
You do not have to be amazing as most is done on computer! I am not sure where you are based, but as I said in the video, here in the UK you need *usually* 1 creative subject to get into university- plus a whole portfolio with artwork/design work. Sorry if thats not what you wanted to hear! Although I don't think you need to be amazing, you will definitely need to refine your drawing/ art skills as you will use them alot! :) Jacqueline

Hey Jacqueline, Thank you so much for making content like this! It's the only source of information I've found that's been super helpful! I'm currently working as a Showrooms Advisor at B&Q, studying with NDA part time towards a Diploma in Interior Design and working on my creative skills in my spare time to start getting a portfolio together. My question is, would I be able to include some designs I've done at work, be it for customers or when I've had a moment to have a play with our design software? I'm also looking at portfolio building courses, do you think that would be beneficial? I'm 24 and had no previous plans of going to university when I was younger so having made that decision now, it all seems a little daunting 😂 I wasn't mega academic so I want to give myself the best chance possible of getting accepted. Love from Wales 🏴😊

Hi Rhiannon! 100% include the designs you've done for clients 💗 That is so great that you have that for your portfolio! 🤗 And I wouldn't waste your coin on those portfolio courses! Question for you, Ideally in the future I would love to design furniture and lighting, is a degree in interior design the way to go? (Sorry such a big question!) just not sure if I should be looking through more practical avenues or this is covered in interior degrees (I'm in the UK to :)) Thank you!

Thank you😁 Honestly I would say a degree in industrial design OR product design is more suitable for what you're saying 😊 Research into it, but if you're focus is on lighting and future I would day product design would be more helpful. Hello, Jacqueline! I am currently studying Interior architecture and I have a little question. Will it be useful for me to focus on BIM software like Revit for example, in order to work abroad? I am from Alexandria, Egypt. I want to work in Germany or UK or USA. So, is it that useful to learn BIM for Interior architectural design? Or do architects (exterior) focus more on it?
@dantierandbalogh3 жыл бұрын
No you're completely correct to focus on BIM! I use BIM (specifically vectorworks) and I believe in Europe we mainly use vectorworks or revit, and in USA they mainly use Revit- of course with other rendering software too! Check out this video I did on the best software for architects & designers: I talk specifically on which programs are good & not so good kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZvWnKZ8npxrh7s Also so great to see we are reaching Egypt! 😄 🇪🇬 Jacqueline😊✌

Hello. I’m applying for an interior design programme in the UK and just recently started doing the portfolio. My problem is that I only have moodboards that I did on a website, lots of them, and I can hand draw if I have to. Other than that, I don’t know how to use any software and I don’t have any previous projects to show (just dropped out of business school). How bad do you think my situation is? Can I get accepted with such a simple portfolio. Thank you.

I would say spend the weekends adding things to your folio (sorry if that's bad news). They want to see CREATIVITY & variation! Hi Divya, thanks for reaching out! And no absolutely not. You will find, working in London that, alot of design practices have employees from all over the world (all with different qualifications)😊. But 2 months ONLY! Girl you'll be fine😁 Although it seems like a lifetime when you're looking for a job, it really isn't long. An ideal time frame would be 4-8 months (sorry to say!). I know it can feel like nothing is coming and you're trying so hard, but just keep applying 100 times a day and you will get there 🥳 No doubt you have an amazing portfolio already, so all I can say is give some credit to yourself, and take the pressure off of yourself. I know you are under the pressure of getting a work visa asap (as my friend from India experienced), but remember that good things take time💗 Keep going & the right job will come your way🙏 Frame recruitment, dezeen jobs, Haus careers, major players, sketch recruitment, mustard jobs, linkedin jobs & indeed are ALL good websites for applying (specifically tailored to ID & archi jobs)🍀
