My professor said recently " Its not who you know, it's who knows you." And it hit so close to heart.

Great video man! I just landed a senior full-stack job 2 weeks ago after probably 20+ interview processes and 200+ applications and what you're saying here is 100% my experience. It for sure is super demoralizing getting almost daily rejection letters but believe me, you will eventually hit jackpot. Everyone on job search, keep going! Don't give up!

I think I would have preferred the video be "job search truths" instead of "traps" because my brain can't handle inverting each statement 😅

Good video. But, the inverting of each statement was a bit confusing.

30 years in to my career (which has included plenty of time at Apple, Microsoft etc as well as startups) and I have never applied for an advertised job. I got my first job from an internship in grad school, and after that every job has come from networking with my ex-colleagues/friends. Develop your professional network continuously. It's fun: Meetups, conferences, helping on OSS projects ... Let these people know when you're available, and have informational meetings to explore fit. Interview once they want you to work there.

This is excellent advice. Right now I'm just contracting and it's not bad. I definitely want to consider going for a full time sometime next year as I grow my network and skills.

I'm a senior software engineer and it's almost impossible to find a job lately. 99% of the time it's auto-rejection, and in the event that you do get an interview you have to jump through all kinds of BS hoops. I've also noticed an annoying huge shift to contract work instead of direct hire, and then there is contract-to-hire aka carrot-on-a-stick.

Unemployment is an odd concept in an economy where for so many folks it’s necessary to work multiple jobs just to get by. Loose one and you’re counted as employed but suddenly don’t have enough money to live.

Through closely monitoring the performance of my portfolio, I have witnessed a remarkable growth of $489k in just the past two quarters. this experience has shed light on why experience traders are able to generate substantial return even in lesser -known market. It's safe to say that this bold decision has been one of the most impactful choices I have made recently

I discovered Margaret Johnson Arndt as my consultant through a BBC interview where she was featured. I reached out to her afterward, and she has been providing me with entry and exit points on the securities I focus on. You can look her up online, I follow her trade pattern

I would add also to keep the recruiters in the loop. With software jobs, you never know when you will need them for the next job.

When it comes to salary I know what I'm worth and I give them my salary requirements. They either give me what I want or its a pass. I also only consider base salary and how much time off I get. I know from experience that anything else they promise can and probably will be taken away or altered. For example I was promised 2 weeks paid training of my choice every year at a company. After the 2nd year they took that benefit away. I asked for more pay to make up for it and they refused so I left the company.

Oh, they know me, alright, everywhere they go, boom, I'm there. You're at the store? I'm checking out the peaches while side eyeing your wife (technically one and the same) from one isle over. You're at the gas station? I'm at the pump ahead of you casually smoking my afternoon ciga-*rette.* You're in the bathroom? I'm right there peering up from under the stall.. . It does hurt my feelings when they run away, though, but no matter! Never give up!

Hey KC, Was wondering now that you're this far after quitting intuit b/c it wasn't fulfilling. Do you think you made the right decision? I'm thinking about quitting my job in pursuit of something more fulfilling as well but am scared to take the leap. Thanks!

You can explore other areas, while employed. Don't quit cause then you will be worried about bills more than anything else. Think of it as someone paying you to explore other professions, if that is your goal. Also, you may want to think what do you not like about your current role. Work? Industry? Team? Organization, so you can be more focused during your next job search.

All of this adds up to the industry having no accountability for the garbage code that is generated by people who job hop. Job hopping is horrible for software, even if it's great for you.

For me, in my own opinion it is not about difficulty of finding Job. It's about your skills and passion to it. Based on my research programming is more on calculations and it is actually a bit hard. Months ago i get into a screening interviews on an online class platform and one of their interviews was how good i am when it comes to problem solving thus i gave them a rating of 4 out of five because i am chess player , so that was my incredible experience on tech just correct me if im wrong with my opinion. Whats yours?😊

I've been a programmer for 9 years and I've spent 90% of the time figuring out how other peoples code works and how to edit or add code so it doesnt break the whole system... it's not about problem solving its about learning what the business needs and figuring out others code so you can add on to it.

Not every employer asks you to do a whiteboard interview. Too many tech people move to CA and think that's all there is in tech. There are 49 other states and they all need technology. The east coast has better internet anyway.
